 Good afternoon everyone!

I hope you all had a wonderful day! We had such a great day today. We began our day with our morning assembly, which saw some students get new karate belts. Congratulations to those students!! Mr. Foster’s class took home the golden broom, our December birthdays got to choose a toy from the birthday box, and we handed out December communicator awards. We ended off the assembly with a game of Pin The Nose On The Reindeer (myself, Mr. Conte and Ms. Di Mascio), where students were blind folded and had to put a red nose (ball) on us! We very much enjoyed our class party and Percy Jackson. Thank you to everyone who brought in food and drinks. They were thoroughly enjoyed!!

Wednesday, January 8 is a Day 2 and gym. Please ensure students are dressed in their gym uniform ready to board the bus with proper gym shoes at 9:00 AM.  Students will change into their school day uniform after gym.

Our next extra-curricular activity is skiing/snowboarding at Glen Eden Ski Resort. The dates of the trip are January 22, February 19 and March 4. Please do not order lunch for these days; it will not be saved nor will a reimbursement be given. We will be leaving at 7:00 AM and returning by 4:00 PM at the latest. All rentals are included, however students are more than welcome to bring their own. Please do not order hot lunch for these days as we will be eating lunch at the ski hill – students are welcome to bring money to purchase food and drink items. Students must ensure they are dressed in appropriate ski gear; warm socks, long johns with comfy clothes, snow pants, warm mitts, a face protector and a ski jacket. Please note that if students chose skiing, they will ski all three times. If students pick snowboarding, they will snowboard all three times. All students will have to pass each level before they are granted permission to ski on the big hill, no matter what their experience.

A note on speeches
When we return from Christmas break, we jump right into speeches, which is a 4-5 week process. A package has been sent home today, as students will need to complete some work at home over the holidays – please only do the work assigned at home – do not write you speech. If students return to school with a completed speech, they will begin all over again with a new topic. Grade 5 students will be expected to write and memorize a 3-5 minute persuasive speech on a topic of their choice; research will be needed, along with proper citation. When we are back from the break we will begin by writing our three body paragraphs; one a day using teacher guided writing. We will then write our introduction and conclusion. Time will be given edit, re-write and memorize in class. Please see below an outline of dates that we must stick to (as found in the speech package)!

Good afternoon everyone!

I hope you all had a wonderful day! Thank you so much to all the parents who came out to support our concert yesterday. They did an amazing job and I am so proud of them.

Tomorrow is a Day 1, music, our last day of school before we head into Christmas break, bake sale and our Christmas spirit day – wear all things Christmassy or Christmas colours. We will be having a small class party and watching Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief. We are asking for food item/drink donations for party tomorrow – all items must be nut free and please avoid may contain items. Items that are not 100% nut free will be sent back home. Cookies, chips, cupcakes, pop or juice are just a few ideas. Ms. Cass and I have cups, paper plates and napkins.
