Good afternoon everyone!

I hope you all had a wonderful day! Tomorrow is a Day 2 and gym. Please ensure students are dressed in their gym uniform ready to board the bus with proper gym shoes at 9:00 AM.  Students will change into their school day uniform after gym. All ski forms and waivers are due tomorrow. Please ensure all forms are handed in, as we need to send our numbers to Glen Eden. We have had such great success with the clothing drive that it is being extended into this week. Any unwanted gently used clothes are greatly appreciated! All library books are due back to Ms. Hayward by Monday, December 16. Books will no longer be able to be signed out until after Christmas.

On December 17, 2019, students from Grade 3 to Grade 8 will put on two performances at the St. Jude’s Academy Dome. Our afternoon performance will begin at 1:00 pm, with doors opening at 12:30. Our evening performance will begin at 6:30 pm, with doors opening at 6:00 pm. Seating is on a first come, first serve basis. Please keep in mind that outside food and drinks are not permitted in the Dome.

For our evening performance, families are welcome to take our shuttle from St. Jude’s to the Dome and back. Shuttles will begin running from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Please meet in the main office.

We encourage all families to come bundled up to stay warm and cozy for the entire show. The students and teachers have put a tremendous amount of work into their performances and kindly ask that all families stay and enjoy the show until the end.

Small candy grams cost $0.50 and large one cost $1.00…give them to a friend or your favourite teacher!!!

Our next extra-curricular activity is skiing/snowboarding at Glen Eden Ski Resort. The dates of the trip are January 22, February 19 and March 4. We will be leaving at 7:00 AM and returning by 4:00 PM at the latest. All rentals are included, however students are more than welcome to bring their own. Please do not order hot lunch for these days as we will be eating lunch at the ski hill – students are welcome to bring money to purchase food and drink items. Students must ensure they are dressed in appropriate ski gear; warm socks, long johns with comfy clothes, snow pants, warm mitts, a face protector and a ski jacket. Please note that if students chose skiing, they will ski all three times. If students pick snowboarding, they will snowboard all three times. All students will have to pass each level before they are granted permission to ski on the big hill, no matter what their experience. Permission forms and waivers are due back no later than Thursday, December 12. Please thoroughly complete all forms before returning.

Unit of Inquiry

Today we began learning about the circulatory system, in particular the heart! We learned about how the heart works, oxygen-blue blood and oxygen-red blood, and then completed a ‘heart-y’ words worksheet.

For the next three weeks, students will be learning about the skeletal system, the respiratory system and the digestive system. For our summative, students will be completing a mini-exhibition project. As of now the due date will be towards the end of January.

Homework

Inquiry into Mathematics

Today we began working on a cumulative review of the first four units; whole numbers, number patterns, geometry and decimals. Before we started that, I gave the class a riddle...moms and dads can you solve it??

Points to Remember

Homework

Inquiry into Language

Today we began learning about persuasive writing. This is our Term 2 OWA (Ontario Writing Assessment) topic and will help us in our persuasive speech writing, which we will begin in January after our return from Christmas break. We began by watching some videos on the steps to writing a persuasive piece. Then we wrote a letter about a topic using three support details.
