Happy Pancake Tuesday! We started off our day right by handing out our monthly awards and by having a pancake-eating contest. YUM!







Important information and reminders:

Spirit week is fast approaching! This is a fun filled week that we look forward to every year and it is a great lead up to March Break. Spirit week will run from Monday, March 6-Friday, March 10. Please see schedule below!

Monday, March 6 - PJ Day - come dressed in your cozy PJ's!
Tuesday, March 7 - Crazy Hair/Colourful Outfit Day - come dressed in colourful colours and/or with crazy hair!
Wednesday, March 8 - Princess/Superhero Day - come dressed as your favourite superhero or princess!
Thursday, March 9 - House colours - come dressed head to toe in your house colour!
Friday, March 10 - St. Patrick's Day Spirit - come dressed in your finest St. Patrick's Day attire!

Uniform reminders: JK- Grade 2 gym uniforms are to be worn on Mondays and Wednesdays. After a weekend where Monday is a holiday students will return to school on the Tuesday in their dress uniform. For grades 3 and up students are asked to come dressed each day in their dress uniform and bring their gym uniforms daily to change. Grades 4 and up should be wearing the blazer (or house hoody) each day. They will wear it in the hallways and on trips but have the option of removing it in the classroom. Lastly, our spring uniform will be in effect when we return from the Easter Holiday weekend. We will be beginning uniform checks over the next couple of weeks, so please ensure you child is coming to school everyday in their full uniform. Uniform violations will be sent home for students not in their proper attire.

The Medieval Times Festival forms and money were due on Monday. If they have not yet been returned, please do so.

The annual SJA/TMA Oral Competition is taking place this tomorrow. Good luck to our SJA participants. Let’s go SJA!!

Language

Today was our reading buddies and library day. We also continued work on our UOI summative.

Homework – Read for at least 30 minutes per day

Math

Today we looked at repeating patterns. A repeating pattern is a pattern that repeats itself. The core is the part of the pattern, which repeats. We explored repeating patterns using attributes (a characteristic of a person or thing – size, shape, colour, etc.)

Today we continued work on our good copy comic strips.

Homework – Our UOI summative will begin this week and will be due Friday, March 3. Students will be required to create a 10-frame comic strip based on Feudalism, Knights, and the Black Death (plague).

Today we were back into regular routine! We read a chapter of
‘The Whipping Boy’ and began spelling lesson #24.

Homework – Read for at least 30 minutes per day

-Sign and return spelling test #23 – wrong words are to be written out 10 X

-Finish spelling lesson #24

Math

Today we began with a pre-assessment – Patterns in Number and Geometry. This unit will take us to the beginning of term 3. Tomorrow we will complete our first lesson!

Today we continued work on our summative comic strips. All rough copies were due today, so students began their good copies.

Good afternoon everyone!

I hope you had a great night!

Today was our annual Oral Presentation Day. I would like to thank the grade 4’s for hanging in. I was a very long day for them, so thank you for you patience.

Congratulations to David, Manisha, and Jayden. You worked very hard to earn your spot up there. All three of you did an amazing job and we are all so proud of you. You all showed the risk-taker attribute today, something that can be very difficult.

The March lunch orders were due today by 4:00 PM. The site shuts down after 4 until next month. If you ordered lunch, please send in the payments on Monday.  

SJA Parent Guild is hosting another fantastic movie night and dance. It will take place tonight, Friday, February 24 from 6:30-9:00 PM (free childcare from 6-6:30) in the SJA auditorium. The movie is Pixar Short Films (PG). Tickets are $10 each and included popcorn, bottle water, and a treat. Pizza will also be available for $2 a slice.

Thank you to those students who came dressed as either a lawyer, criminal, judge, or police officer and donating $2.

The lunch order system for March is now open. You will have until Friday, February 24 at 4:00 PM to order. After that time the site will shut down until next month! All payments are required by Monday, February 27 so that we can process the orders.

The MYP students are hosting a school wide casual day, tomorrow, Friday, February 24 to raise money for a mock trial competition they are attending. For $2 students will be able to come to school dressed as a lawyer, judge, criminal or police officer. Students who do not want to participate will be required to wear their school uniform. Those who are participating in Oral Competition Day will be allowed to change into their uniform before their speeches.

Today we watched the top 3 speech presenters from both grade 4 classes rehearse their speech in the auditorium. Tomorrow we will have the chance to watch all of the poems and speeches.

Today we began our UOI summative. Students are expected to create a 10-frame comic strip based on Medieval Times. Students will be required to ensure they use speech bubbles, include the Black Death, Feudalism, and Knights. Summative will be due Friday, March 3. We are very busy with outings next week, so if we need to we will push the due date to the following Monday!
