Good afternoon,
I hope everyone
had a lovely night!
Thank you so much
to all of the family members who came out to support us for International Day.
The grade 4’s worked very hard on our Spain project. I am once again extremely
proud of all of them. Thank you for your hard work grade 4’s! Thank you again
for the food and items that were made and lent to us today. Your support is
very much appreciated! Pictures to come tonight!
Just a reminder to send your child with proper outdoor
gear…coats, boots, hats, mitts, and snow pants.
St. Jude's Academy Cold Weather Policy
Below you will find the steps taken at St. Jude's Academy to ensure
students stay safe and have fun during the winter months.
1 Reduce amount of
time students spend outdoors when the temperature is –20 degrees Celsius
or colder, with or without the wind chill. Students will stay indoors when the
temperature is -20 degrees Celsius or colder, with or without wind chill.
2 Understand that
some medical conditions may increase sensitivity to cold. Parents should consult
their physician and provide a written notice if a child has a need to
stay indoor.
3
Ensure students are dressed warmly, covering
exposed skin: insulated boots, winter weight coats, mittens, hats, and neck
warmers.
4 Ensure students
change wet clothing or footwear immediately.
5 Although these
conditions are unlikely to occur during the school day, ensure that all staff
are able to recognize and treat symptoms of frostbite and hypothermia. Given
plenty of warm fluids to prevent dehydration.
6 When children are
outside, be watchful for shivering or signs of numbness in faces, ears, hands
or feet.
7 Educate children in dealing with cold weather: drinking plenty of
fluids, dressing warmly, and recognizing signs of cold injury.
IMPORTANT DATES AND INFORMATION:
On Wednesday,
February 3 Scientists in the School will be visiting us to do a workshop on

A note regarding music class: Beginning on Feb. 1st, grades
3 - 6 students at SJA will be practicing recorders during art classes. Students
who have previously ordered and stored recorders at the school will have theirs

have their own can bring them in from home for Feb. 1!
Re-registration
packages were sent home before the break. Please send them back as soon as
possible as they are due no later than February

MATH
Today we took the
information from our surveys and created a bar graph, pictograph, and circle
graph. The in class unit test will take place Monday, January 25.
LANUGAGE
Today we played
‘Sparkle’ for our spelling test! Sparkle is when the students spell the word
letter by letter until someone misses a letter or says a wrong letter. Such
fun!
Students are expected
to read for at least 20 minutes everyday. They can record it in their reading
log. Reading logs will be checked
every Friday.
I have approved everyone’s speech topic, so if needed
research can begin. Research should be brought in for Monday so we begin our
rough copies on Monday, focusing on the introduction and hook.
UOI
Today was SJA’s International Mindedness Day. Well done
to everyone!
For this summative, students will be asked to design
create and a vehicle that can be moved by pushing or pulling force. I would ask that all material needed to
construct the car be brought in on Monday so we can begin making the car in
class. Please do not build the car at home! We will be using all of the
week to construct the car. The construction of the car must be completed by
Friday, January 29.The tests will be completed the weekend of the January 30 at
home. We will begin presentations on Monday, February 1 and Tuesday, February 2.
A booklet has been sent home with all the information that will be needed.
Please send this booklet back on a daily basis.
Have a great weekend!
