I hope you had a wonderful night! I look forward to seeing you tomorrow afternoon for our International Day. Students will be packed up ready for the long weekend before we begin International Day, so you are welcome to take your child once our celebration is over. Tomorrow is a Day 4 (music and library). Scientists in the School Matter workshop permission forms and money due no later than Tuesday, October 9^th. Students are now being bused to the new Athletic Centre. Please ensure that students arrive to school on time, dressed in their gym clothes and ready to board the bus at 9:00 AM.

Winter uniforms begin Tuesday, October 9^th. Please ensure that all students have all of the pieces and that all pieces are worn on a daily basis (grey skirt/pants, navy blue socks, black dress shoes, long sleeve button up white dress shirt, navy blue sweater/sweater vest, tie [academic Monday-Thursday and house colour tie on Friday], and a blazer). Students will be required to wear all the pieces during morning announcements, field trips, and during transitions if going from one classroom to another. Please see Ms. Alpa for any uniform requests or inquirers. Soccer Practice Times

Elementary Girls and Boys – Tuesday and Thursday 4-5PM

U12 Coed and U12 Development Program – Monday and Wednesday 4-5PM

**Please note that students doing any after school activity, soccer, karate, yoga, etc. will be charged until 4:00 PM in aftercare, when they will be dismissed to their program with their coach!**

Caribou Math Contest is an online mathematics contest that is held 6 times per year. Last year we did a trial run with a few students from Grade 6 and above. This year we are going to offer it to students in Grades 3 and up. This is something that will be done on a student’s own time. This will not be a focus of our math program. That being said, Dr. Kaur and Mr. Lee-Guide have offered to run a math club on Wednesday morning beginning at 8:00 AM for those who are interested – the math club has begun. There is a $15 annual fee that must be paid online at registration and the test times begin at 7:15 AM. Committed students will write the tests on:

Unit of Inquiry

Today we completed a matter crossword and worked on our International Day project.

Our 'What’s the Matter' summative is fast approaching. This summative will be their science fair project and it must relate to matter.  An outline with due dates and a rubric was sent home today. We will begin on Tuesday, October 9 - a kind reminder that this is an in-class project only. Please do not do any work at home unless it has been stated. We will be working on rough copies the week of October 9th. The experiment will be completed at home during the weekend of October 13th and 14th. Good copies will be completed on October 15th and 16th, with board set up taking place on October 17th. The due date for this summative will be Thursday, October 18^th with in-class presentations happening then and on Friday, October 19^th. Please note that students will be required to show their display again during our SJA Science Fair, which takes place on Friday, November 16^th. Inquiry into Mathematics

Today we learned about input and output numbers. We used charts today to help us. With input/output charts, we need to take the input number and do the operation/operations to get the output number. For example:

Input	+ 5 -2	Output
10		13
11		14
12		15
13		16
14		17

You are taking each input number, adding 5, then subtracting 2 each time to get your output number (10 + 5 -2 = 13, 11 + 5- 2 = 14).

Inquiry into Language

Today we finished putting together our France International Day boards. Thank you to all of the Grade 5s for their hard work! We also had some time to read a couple of chapters from Percy Jackson.

Parents and families are welcome to join us tomorrow, Thursday, October 4^th from 2:30-3:15. Any French food donations would be greatly appreciated!! Please dress in blue, red and white, or wear something French! Thus far we have croissants, baguettes and quiche, cheese, tarts, and ratatouille  coming. I will be picking up plates, cutlery, and table clothes.
