Tomorrow is a Day 3 (gym). Aftercare invoices are due by December 15th. Be
sure to pay on time to avoid interest charges! Our Christmas concert is
happening next Tuesday, December 18th. There will be an afternoon
and evening performance. Our costumes will be jeans, a Christmas shirt and a
Santa hat. There will also be a dress rehearsal on Monday, where student will
be required to wear their costumes. December lunch payments were due today. If you received an email from me, please pay the outstanding amount at your earliest convenience.

Re-registrations packages have been sent
home. All completed forms are due back no later than February 11, 2019, in order to save your spot.
Ms. Hayward is asking that all library books are due back by Thursday,
December 20th. Please see the flyer below for more information.
The lunch site is now
open for January hot lunch orders. All orders are due by Wednesday, December 19th
at 3:00 PM. The site will close after 3:00 and will not re-open. The special
this month is French toast. Please be sure to order under the correct grade and
teacher.

Today
we continued learning about the circulatory system. We labeled parts of the
heart and the blood. We also had a pop quiz, where we labelled the parts of the
skeleton.

Playing around with PowerPoint to put together a presentation on either the skeletal system or circulatory system.

is located 3 spots after the decimal in the place value chart (0.000).
Fractions to decimals: 6/1000 = .006,
17/1000 = .017, 123/1000 = .123, 2 321/1000 = 2.321. **Remember that when
saying the number the decimal = and. For example, 2.123 = two and one hundred
and twenty three thousandths.**
When
comparing and ordering numbers, we need to remember that as we go from tenths
to thousandths the numbers get smaller. So 0.406 is smaller than 0.457, and 6.0
is bigger than 5.976.
Rounding rules are 0-4 round down
and 5-9 round up.
When
we multiply decimals by 10, the
decimal shifts 1 spot to the right (38 x 10 = 380 or 2.8 x 10 = 28). When we multiply decimals by 100, the decimal
shifts 2 spot to the right (38 x 100 = 3800 or 5.109 x 100 = 510.9). When we multiply decimals by 1000, the decimal
shifts 3 spot to the right (38 x 1000 = 38000 or 6.372 x 1000 = 6372) and
finally when we multiply decimals by
10000, the decimal shifts 4 spot to the right (38 x 10000 = 380000 or 9.048
x 10000 = 90480).**Move one spot for 10 as there is one zero. Move two spots
for 100 as there are two zeros. Move three spots for 1000 as there are three
zeros and finally move four spots for 10000 as there are four zeros. **
When
we divide decimals by 10, the decimal shifts 1 spot to the left (38
x 10 = 3.8 or 2.8 x 10 = .28). When we divide decimals by 100, the
decimal shifts 2 spot to the left (38 x 100 = 0.38 or 5.109 x 100 = .05109).
When we divide decimals by 1000, the decimal shifts 3 spot to the
left (38 x 1000 = 0.038 or 6.372 x 1000 = 0.006372) and finally when we
divide decimals by 10000, the decimal shifts 4 spot to the left (38 x 10000
= 0.0038 or 9.048 x 10000 = 0.0009048).
When
we multiply by 0.1, the decimal
moves one spot to the left on the whole number (48 x 0.1 = 4.8). When we multiply by 0.01, the decimal moves two
spots to the left on the whole number (48 x 0.01 = 0.48). When we multiply by 0.001, the decimal moves
three spots to the left on the whole number (48 x 0.001 = 0.048).
Multiplying decimals
by whole numbers = 4.3 x 6 = 25.8. We can use estimation/rounding to help
us with multiplying decimals. For example, 4.3 x 6 would round to 4 x 6 = 24.
