Good
afternoon everyone,
Happy New Year and welcome back!
I hope you had a wonderful holiday
season. We most certainly did…it was the best one to date. We began our holiday
with a night in Toronto, where we saw the theatre production of Mary Poppins
and went skating at Nathan Philips Square. We spent Christmas in Georgetown and
hosted a New Year’s Eve party for our neighbours. Then we headed up to North
Bay to do some winter activities. We skated at Arrowhead, rode snow mobiles,
ice fished, tobogganed, and down hill skied. We also had a birthday celebration with Nana and Papa for Kase, who turns 5 on the 16th! It was just beautiful up north,
despite one -32 degree day we had!!

are both short units and it is looking like our Data Management math test will
take place on Monday, January 21st and our Probability test will
take place on Friday, February 1st. There will be no review for Data
Management, as students will be conducting their own survey and graphing the

Today
we began our second novel study – Shannen and A Dream For A School. We will be
doing a literary circle for this novel. For the first three chapters we will be
reading and writing a summary for each chapter. Once speeches are over in
February, we will begin our literary circles.
Persuasive
speeches - we will be beginning our persuasive speech writing next week. We will have roughly four weeks to write
and memorize our speeches. The first week will be spent completing a guided

revising and memorizing. I have approved all topics. I have sent home an information package.
