Good afternoon everyone,

I hope you had a wonderful day. Tomorrow is a Day 1 – we will not be participating in gym as we have our Top 6 Oral Presentation from 9-10:30. Please send students to school in full dress uniform.

Pancake Tuesday has been moved from Tuesday, February 5th to Tuesday, March 5th.  **Aftercare invoices have been sent out. Please pay your invoice by Friday, February 15th to avoid interest charges**

**Please do not order lunch on the following days – February 20th (second ski trip), March 7th (third ski day) and March 27th (Legislative Assembly field trip).**

It seems as though the cold and snowy weather is here to stay. Please ensure that students are sent to school with proper outdoor gear - winter coats, hats, mitts, winter boots, scarves, etc. Students will not be allowed to stay in at recess if they are not dressed accordingly. I thank you for your support.

A note regarding Caribou Math Contest - The next Caribou contest will take place on Wednesday February 13th, 2019. Please arrive at 7:15 am for a 7:30 am start. You will have one hour to complete the test. Bring your own device. Ensure your device is full charged. The next interactive question will be Sudoku which you students can practice now on the Caribou games page. This time grade 3/4 participants will have to solve a 6x6 Sudoku problem, although with an increased number of digits already inserted. There is no history question in the coming contest.

A note from Ms. Melissa regarding re-registration packages - Just a friendly reminder that re-registration packages are due no later than Monday, February 11.  After this time, spots will be opened up to the public and your child will not be guaranteed a space for next year.  We look forward to seeing you back for next year! **If we are the first class to have all registration forms returned we will have a pizza party and movie afternoon the Friday before March Break. Drinks and chips/treats will be included!!**

Unit of Inquiry

Today we examined the five types of government; Monarchy, Oligarchy, Democracy, Republic, and Dictatorship. We discussed each type through a reading, watched a video about how Canada became a Democracy, and picked two types of government and wrote a pro and con of each. We had some very opinionated students this morning when it came to writing cons about a Republic government. I kindly reminded them that they are welcome to have their own thoughts about set person, but in class we will be using the information given to us when completing work.

Our video on how we became a Democracy!

Inquiry into Mathematics

Today we focused on perimeter. The perimeter is the outside of a figure. For any polygon, you can find the perimeter by adding the side lengths. When finding the perimeter of an parallelogram, we can use a formula of P = (l + w) x 2! **To change mm to cm you will need to divide by 10 – move the decimal one spot to the left. For example, 108 mm would become 10.8 cm. Do the opposite when changed cm to mm.**

Today we got back into Shannen. We read chapter 10 and discussed what a literary circle should look like. We also visited our reading buddies and the book fair!!

Have a wonderful night!
