Math
Today we looked at multiplying 3-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers. We
begin by multiplying the number in the ones column, then the tens column, and
finally the hundreds column. We used a strategy to help us.
Just a few reminders from our last multiplication unit!
Some multiplication strategies are repeated
addition – 3 x 4 = 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 12, using arrays (pictures) -
**** **** **** = 3 x 4 = 12. There are 3 groups with 4
in each group. Skip counting is another strategy - 5 x 7 = 5, 10, 15 20,
25, 30, 35 OR 2 x 6 = 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12. Using a number line or multiplication
chart are other useful strategies. Remember that 5 x 8 = 40 and so does 8 x
5 = 40, any number x 1 will be that number (10 x 1 = 10) and any number x 0
will always be 0 (9 x 0 = 0).
Homework – MMS 168-169
UOI
Today we watched a short clip to answer the question what is a rock. We
also explored ways to classify rocks. We call these properties. Examples of
properties are size, shape, colour, odor, texture, and luster. We also
described each of the properties. Then, using the rocks we brought in we began
using the properties to describe them.
Homework – Find
vocabulary meaning for next 4 rocks and mineral words
-Bring in rocks
-Bring in device
Using different properties to classify our rocks!
Have a lovely night!
