Summer uniforms will
begin when we return from Easter on Tuesday,
April 18. Summer uniform consists of grey pants/shorts/skirt, the white
polo t-shirt, and navy blue socks/stockings.
Uniform reminders: JK- Grade 2
gym uniforms are to be worn on Mondays and Wednesdays. After a weekend where
Monday is a holiday students will return to school on the Tuesday in their
dress uniform. For grades 3 and up students are asked to come dressed each
day in their dress uniform and bring their gym uniforms daily to change. Grades 4 and up should be wearing the
blazer (or house hoody) each day. They will wear it in the hallways and on
trips but have the option of removing it in the classroom. Lastly, our spring
uniform will be in effect when we return from the Easter Holiday weekend. We
will be beginning uniform checks over the next couple of weeks, so please
ensure you child is coming to school everyday in their full uniform. Uniform
violations will be sent home for students not in their proper attire.
Language
Today we continued working on our novel study ‘The Whipping Boy.’ We
read a chapter and worked on the comprehension questions. We also visited our
reading buddies and took a trip to the library.
Homework – Read for at
least 30 minutes
Math
Today we examined patterns in division with reminders. We used number
lines and skip counted to help us solve the division problems.
Patterns:
The first was a same-step growing pattern, which increases by the same
number each time. For example, if frame 1 has 1 square, frame 2 has 2 squares,
frame 3 has 3 squares, then the pattern rule if start at 1 and add 1 each time.
The second type is called a changing-step growing pattern, which increase by a
different number each time. For example, if frame 1 has 1 square, frame 2 has 4
squares, frame 3 has 9 squares, frame 4 has 16 squares, and then the pattern
rule is start at 1 and add 3. Then add each time (1, 3, 5, 7, etc).
A growing pattern grows by a certain number each time. For example if
frame 1 has 1 square, frame 2 has 3 squares, frame 3 has 5 squares, then frame
4 has to have 7 squares. It is adding 2 squares each time. Using charts are a
great way to help us!
Just a few reminders from our last multiplication unit!
Some multiplication strategies are repeated
addition – 3 x 4 = 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 12, using arrays (pictures) -
**** **** **** = 3 x 4 = 12. There are 3 groups with 4
in each group. Skip counting is another strategy - 5 x 7 = 5, 10, 15 20,
25, 30, 35 OR 2 x 6 = 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12. Using a number line or multiplication
chart are other useful strategies. Remember that 5 x 8 = 40 and so does 8 x
5 = 40, any number x 1 will be that number (10 x 1 = 10) and any number x 0
will always be 0 (9 x 0 = 0).
Homework – MMS pg

UOI
Today we continued looking minerals. We reviewed what a mineral was,
watched a video on the MOHS scale, read, and answered some questions. We will be
doing a Web quest tomorrow and Thursday, so please bring in devices.
Homework – finish questions
from today on minerals/MOHS scale
-Bring in device tomorrow for a Web quest
Have a wonderful night!
