Good
afternoon everyone,
I hope you had a wonderful day!
Monday is a Day 3 (gym). Once again, I am having great difficulty downloading pictures to add to my blog. I am in the middle of deleting items off my computer. Hopefully it will be ready for Monday.
Our second curling trip
will be happening on Tuesday, November 20th in the afternoon (12-3).
Students are reminded to wear their gym uniform (they will be wearing it all day),
as well as to bring warm clothes (hats, mitts and coats) as we will be on the
ice and it will be cold. We will eat lunch before we leave on the 20th.
Don't
forget about Polar Expressions Publishing! The short story deadline is November 23rd, 2018.
Oakwood Academy is holding a Poinsettia
fundraiser for the holiday season, to raise money for some new sensory
items. The Poinsettias are red, pink or white and make a wonderful holiday
gift, and are a nice way to spread holiday cheer. Order forms were sent home
today. The class that sells the most Poinsettias will win a $50 gift card!!
Order between November 1st and November 30th by cash
only.
A note from our Librarian, Ms. Hayward: The book fair has been postponed

Unit of Inquiry
Today
we continued to learn about Ancient Egypt. We read about important dates in
Ancient Egypt and did some research on King Tut. Thank you to Vishva for
sharing another Geronimo Stilton book which outlined some of the things we
discussed in class about Ancient Egypt.
It
is hard to believe, but we are nearing the end of our second Unit of Inquiry. For
our summative, students will be required to re-create an ancient artefact from
one of the three civilization we learned about. An information package and
rubric was sent home. We will begin our in-class summative on Monday, November
19th and the due date will be Thursday, November 29th. A
kind reminder that all work is to be completed during class time only, unless
other wise stated. All materials needed
to re-create the artefact will need to be bought in by Wednesday, November 21st.

Inquiry into
Mathematics
Today
we looked at examining nets. By looking and visualizing nets, we can form the
nets in our head!
Points to remember:
An
acute angle is less than 90 degrees.
A right angle is 90 degrees and
takes the shape of an L. An obtuse angle
is greater than 90 degrees. A straight
line is 180 degrees and makes a straight line. A reflex angle is an angle that falls between 180 and 360 degrees.
In
order to measure a reflex angle, you
measure the angle below the 180 degree straight line. Then you add up the
numbers. For example, if the angle measures 13 degrees, then 13 + 180 = 193
degrees.
When
constructing a reflex angle you need
to do the opposite. You take the angle measurement and subtract it from the 180
degree straight line. That angle will tell you how to draw it. For example, 205
– 180 = 25 degrees. Using the 180 degree line, measure the 25 degree angle and
draw it.
A
scalene triangle is a triangle that
2 equal sides.
An
equilateral triangle is a triangle
that has all sides equal.
An
isosceles triangle has no equal sides.
A
quadrilateral is a four-sided figure.
A
convex polygon is a polygon that has
angles less than 180 degrees and a concave
polygon has at least on reflex angle (180-360 degrees).
