Good
afternoon everyone,
I hope you had a wonderful night.
Tuesday is a Day 3 (it is our rock climbing day - 9:00-12:30 - please do not be late). A reminder
there is no school tomorrow Friday, April 18th and Monday, April 22nd.
Tuesday is Earth Day Spirit Day and bake sale – we will be rock climbing (9:00-12:30),
so please send students to school in their gym uniform. Wednesday is bake sale
and casual day – for students not participating, please wear full school day
summer uniform. Please note that summer uniform begins next week.
Today we learned so much about
microscopy during our SITS workshop. We were able to look at many different
things using the microscopes, such as onions, butterflies and bacteria. Ask me about some of the gross things we saw!
Wine and Cheese Social Event - SJA will be
holding a wine and cheese for all parents to attend on Friday, April 26th from
6-8 PM. This will be a great time to socialize and hear about the direction SJA
will be heading. Please RSVP to Ms. Hughes-Smith at bsmith@stjudesacademy.com.
Please note this is a parents only event!
Oakwood
is holding their second Silent Dance on Wednesday, April 30th.
A silent dance is a dance in which students are given individual headphones
where they can listen to various types of music while controlling the volume.
It is an excellent way to foster inclusion. It provides a sensory friendly
environment for all students. The cost to attend the silent dance is $20 and
includes a slice of pizza. All money raised will go towards new resources for
our friends at Oakwood to support their developmental, social and emotional
growth. Forms have been sent home and are due back by Tuesday, April 23rd.
A note from Ms. Jaskolka’s homelessness Exhibition
group - Hi!! Our names are Mona, Joana, and
Shivam.
We are doing a project
called Exhibition where we choose a topic we are interested in and want to
research more about in order to make a positive difference in our world. We
chose the topic of homelessness because we do not want anyone to be without
their basic needs. Every person has the right to have a home and food to eat
and clothing to wear. We are collecting donations so that we can
donate them to Angela’s Place, a homeless shelter right here in Mississauga.
You can donate:
- Non perishable food
- Clothing (for all ages such as Pants, shirts,
hats ,shoes and more)
- Toiletries (mouthwash, feminine products,
toothpaste, toothbrush, and deodorant)
- Seasonal clothing
- Baby formula
- Diapers
- Baby products
Reason why we are doing this= Our plan is
to help people who are homeless who need food and clothing and any other useful
materials. After collecting these materials, we are going to donate all these
items to a shelter called “Angela's Place” (45 Glenn Hawthorne Blvd, Mississauga,
ON L5R 4J9).
Please bring in items by
Tuesday April 23, 2019 to Ms. Jaskolka's class (Room 30)
Thank you so much for
making the world a better place!
Great job by Ms. Jaskolka's bullying Exhibition group who painted a 'buddy bench.' Absolutely amazing!!
A note from Ms. Hayward - Please return your books to the library!

Unit of Inquiry
Today
we continued working on our UOI summative. For
this summative students will research a species of their choice and create a
podcast to inform the rest of us about the species they chose. It may be an
audio or video podcast. The podcast is due on Friday, April 26th. Students should be
ready to begin recording their podcast on Tuesday. Rough copy and script ready
for Tuesday as well.
Our
final unit of the year will be about coding. All students will be required
to have a working laptop, not device, for this unit. They will be expected
to bring it to school each and every day. Students will also be expected
have their own email account. A Gmail account is preferred, as we can easily
share our projects. Our coding unit begin on Monday, April 29th.

Inquiry into
Mathematics
Today
we learned about the third transformation – rotations (turns). After a
rotation, a figure and its image are congruent and may face different ways. If
a figure turns 360 degrees (a full turn), we will not use the prime (‘) symbol
as with the full turn it is back to the original figure. Another tough lesson - not many were able to get it. Please try to homework and if it does not go smoothly we can work on it on Tuesday.
Points to remember:
Transformations
Translations – slide. After a translation,
a figure and its image are congruent (same shape and same size) and they face
the same way. We say 'A prime' and write A’ when referring to the points on the
new image.
Reflections- flip. After reflections, a
figure and its image are congruent and can face opposite ways. Remember
any point and its reflection image are the same distance form the
mirror line. Remember to label each new image and use prime (') on the new
points.
