I hope everyone enjoyed the weekend! Ours was spent up north celebrating a dear friends wedding.

IMPORTANT DATES AND INFORMATION:

We are very excited to have Maranda Bacchus (Ms. B) join us every Monday-Wednesday from now until April. She comes from Sheridan College and is taking the Child and Youth Care Program. She will have the opportunity to work with students, help create activities, help assess students, and give extra support wherever needed. She will also be assisting with after care, so don’t be shy!!

SJS WELCOME BACK BBQ will take place on THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 17 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. Order forms are due back with money tomorrow, Tuesday, September 15!

Just a reminder to send your children to school in their gym uniform. They will change into their school day uniform after gym. They also need to have outdoor shoes, black shoes, and gym shoes. Black shoes and gym shoes can stay overnight. All school bags can be put on their hooks upon arrival at SJA, so the gym does not get overcrowded with school bags. Also if you could have your children put their agendas in the agenda box inside the classroom it would help speed things up!

The gym door is to be used before school and after school. After 8:50 that door will be locked and you will have to enter through the front of the building. The ‘kiss and ride’ program is in full swing. It’s a great way to pick up your children and saves you from having to park and come into the school! Please see email as we have changed how ‘kiss and ride’ will work!

Math

Today we began with an introduction into our first unit, Number Patterns. We began by using calendars to find and create number patterns. Then we began creating our title pages.

Language

This period was used to complete our first spelling activities. Students wrote the words in their agenda and then completed the corresponding activities. If students finished early they read independently.

U.O.I. (Unit of Inquiry)

Today was our first lesson in our Please and Thank You unit. We discussed friendship and how to be a good friend.

Today we began with gym and then headed back for our first of five math assessments. This math assessement will be given again once we have completed the first math unit! After French, recess, and lunch, we had more time to complete our math tests and had some independent reading time. We completed a journal entry about our summer vacation!

Today was a busy day. They spent their morning in gym, art, and French. In the afternoon we began DRA (our reading assessments) and they worked on a cumulative math review. Please note that tomorrow, Friday September 11, they will be given their first of 5 math assessments. This is only a pre-assessment to see what I need to focus on. At the end of this unit will be their pre-assessment. We also had time to continue working on our self-portraits.

Our day was spent getting to know each other. After gym, we began with introductions and then had a tour of the school. After that we began to work on some back to school activities. Then it was French, recess and lunch. After that we continued to work on our back to school package, discussed our Essential Agreement, went over some general rules, and created nametags for our classroom jobs. After our last recess and lunch, we created self-portraits.

Hello Grade 4 Parents!

I hope you have all enjoyed your summer vacation! I most definitely did!! I am thrilled to be back teaching the grade 4 class at St. Jude’s Academy. It is going to be a wonderful year and I look forward to working with all of you. 

IMPORTANT DATES AND INFORMATION:

Just a reminder that the first day of school is WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 9. The school day runs from 8:50-3:45. There are many new policies taking place at St. Jude’s all of which will be discussed during orientation night. 

ORIENTATION NIGHT will now take place on TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8 from 7:00 – 9:00 PM in the auditorium. It will be a chance for everyone to see the school and become aware of the new policies.
