Just a reminder to send your child with proper outdoor gear…coats, boots, hats, mitts, and snow pants.

IMPORTANT DATES AND INFORMATION:

March Break camp registration will be sent home by end of week. If you have any questions please email Mrs. Smith at bsmith@stjudesadacemy.com.

Phone calls have begun and will continue next week!

A note regarding music class: Beginning on Feb. 1st, grades

3 - 6 students at SJA will be practicing recorders during art classes. Students who have previously ordered and stored recorders at the school will have theirs made available to them on Feb. 1st for the first session. Those who have their own can bring them in from home for Feb. 1!

Pancake breakfast is on Friday.

Re-registration packages were sent home before the break. Please send them back as soon as possible as they are due no later than February 11. After February 11 we open up to the public so spots will not be guaranteed. We do have waiting lists for most classes.

Reading logs due every Friday.

LANUGAGE

Rough copy of speeches due tomorrow. Please remember that we are working on the speeches in class. Please do not complete your speech at home.

Students are expected to read for at least 20 minutes everyday. They can record it in their reading log. Reading logs will be checked every Friday.

UOI

Today was our ‘Forces’ workshop. What an amazing morning full of fun experiments. We created roller coasters, drove cars using magnets, and used a catapult to sling shot pom-poms! Everyone was on their best behavior and was able to answer all the questions asked by Scientist Wendy. She mentioned to more on more than one occasion how good their were. Great job grade 4’s!

On Wednesday, February 3 Scientists in the School will be visiting us to do a workshop on Forces. It is bound to be a great time with some hands on experiments! We will be taking part in the morning session!

Today we worked out ‘Strategies Toolkit.’ Students worked with their table groups to solve problems using strategies we have learned.

LANUGAGE

Today we continued working on speeches. Rough copies are due on Thursday. Please remember that we are working on the speeches in class. Please do not complete your speech at home.

Students are expected to read for at least 20 minutes everyday. They can record it in their reading log. Reading logs will be checked every Friday.

UOI

Today we began completing our new title page for our new unit ‘City Mouse, Country Mouse.’

MATH

This is another tough unit so any assistance at home would be greatly appreciated. Today we looked at fractions of a set, where students represented fractions of a set using pictures. For example, 2/5 of 10 = 4 (there are 5 rows with 2 in each…1/5 = 2 then 2/5 = 4).

Today we completed our presentations. What an amazing job everyone did. Everyone really understood what was asked of them and they were all able to clearly explain why certain forces affected their car. Absolutely fantastic! They again leave me speechless.
