Good afternoon everyone!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Please remember to sign your child agenda every night.

I am still waiting on some signed student handbook pages. Please sign the back page of the handbook, along with your child, and return to me as soon as possible. Thank you!

One form of classroom management I use is Class DoJo. It is an online way of tracking your child’s behavior at school. I have sent home a login for each child. Please login and if you have any trouble please let me know! Thank you to those family members who have already done so!

Important information and reminders:

Welcome Back BBQ will take place on Thursday, September 15 from 4-6 PM. This is a great chance for staff, students, and parents to interact and get to know one another. Forms were sent home on Friday and are due back, along with money, by Wednesday, September 14.

Our first Unit of Inquiry is called O'Canada. We will be filling our UOI board with post cards from different provinces and territories in Canada. Students are encouraged to ask friends and/or family that live in another province or territory to send them a post card to add to our UOI board. We have already received some, but would love to add more to our board!

LANGUAGE:
Today for language we had our first spelling lesson on Consonants. We did a small lesson on what a consonant is, wrote the words in our agenda, and complete the corresponding activities. Our first spelling test will be on Friday, September 16.

UOI:
Today we began our very first UOI unit of grade 4, O’Canada. We began with a small pre-assessment using a blank map of Canada. Students had work with their table groups and do their best to fill in the provinces and territories. Then we began to create a title page.

MATH:
Today we began to learn about patterns in a hundreds chart. We looked at positional patterns (left to right, up and down, or diagonal going left or right). We also began to use some vocabulary such as using a pattern rule. An example of a pattern rule would be ‘start at 2 and add 2 each time.’ This was our first lesson and we were a bit rusty! Any support at home during homework would be greatly appreciated.

Have a great night!

Good afternoon everyone!

What a great first week we have had. It was great seeing everyone in their house colours today.

Please remember to sign your child agenda every night.

A little bit about grade 4:

Homework will be given on a daily basis and students are expected to read at least 30 minutes per day. Students are also expected to write in cursive. As per the email sent out on Thursday, one of the biggest changes is the uniform. Alpa, our uniform specialist, will be more that happy to help with you anything related to uniform. She can be reached via email at alpa@multiformcanada.com.  The first few days will be spent getting to know one another, completing DRA’s, creating our IB learner profile traits pictures, and reviewing the policies/procedures of SJA. This year we are running on a 10-day cycle so our schedule will be changing on a daily basis. We have gym and French every day, with music taking place every second day. Spelling activities will be done every Monday, or Tuesday if there is a holiday, with a spelling test taking place every Friday, or Thursday if there is a holiday. After every math unit there will be a unit test. I will send home a review for students. After every UOI unit, students will have to complete a summative assessment. This will be done during class time. I will do my best to send home monthly email reminders of important dates and information. My blog will be updated on a daily basis, as will student agendas. Please take the time each night to sign your child’s agenda.

Today was a continuation from yesterday. We continued work on our IB traits and attitude posters, completed more DRA’s, and played another house game!

Today the grade 4’s began with music and then headed right to French. Upon arrival to the class we began to get to know one another. We played a name game for house points and filled out a ‘Guess Who I Am’ sheet. After recess and lunch we began to discuss our IB learner profile traits, the disciplinary skills we use and the IB attitudes. We will be using this discussion to create posters for our classroom. After our second recess and lunch we headed for gym and then played a house game to end the day!

Have a great night!
