Good afternoon everyone!

I hope you had a great night!

Today we had some fun completing activities related to the number 100 in order to celebrate the 100th Day of School! We created pictures using the number 100, we found out how many 3-letter, 4-letter, and 5 letter words we could come up using the words ONE HUNDRED, and we gave ourselves 100 seconds to see how many times we could do certain activities such as clapping, saying the alphabet, and writing our name!

The beginnings of our number 100 pictures.

How many times can you clap in 100 seconds?

How many times can you jump in 100 seconds?

What will you look like when you are 100?

The final number 100 pictures.

Important information and reminders:

Our Oral Presentation Day is fast approaching. Please see the letter posted below and that was sent home today. Please be reminded that Friday’s competition is only for the top 3 who will be chosen on Tuesday!

Today we had another round of recitals. Students were paired up with one another and had a chance to give ‘2 stars and 1 wish.’ We also took time to go over the rubric and I gave examples of what each meant so students can use that information over the weekend. Students are encouraged to keep memorizing their speeches all week in anticipation for Tuesdays top 3. Top 3 will compete on Friday, February 24. Time to be announced.

Homework – Read for at least 30 minutes per day

-Practice memorizing your speech

-Top 3 will be chosen on Tuesday, February 21. We will be joining Ms. Schwarz’s class so I can judge her students and she can judge mine. Please remember that all speeches must fall between 2-3 minutes and must be 100 percent memorized.

Practicing our speech!

Math

Today we continued creating our castles. This will be used as our final math assessment of this unit.

A face is (flat surface on a shape) as well as an edge (a straight line) and a vertex/vertices (the point at which the 2 edges meet together to make a point). We filled out a chart with examples to help us.

A quadrilateral is a shape that has 4 sides and has angles. There are 5 types of quadrilateral– a square, rectangle, rhombus, trapezoid, and a parallelogram. We realized that a square and rectangle has 4 - 90 degree angles. We recognized that a rhombus and parallelogram will have 2 pairs of equal angles that are opposites and a kite will have 1 pair of equal opposite angles and 2 angles that are different.

Protractor Hint – Use the t in the little circle and line that up with the vertex. Make sure the 180-degree line is lined up straight with the bottom line of the angle. There are 4 types of angles. A straight angle is 180 degrees and is a straight line. A right angle is 90 degrees and looks like an L. An acute angle is less than 90 degrees and an obtuse angle is more that 90 degrees.

Homework

UOI

Today we continued building our castles.

Homework – Finish step #5: Castle Refection from your castle assignment, which is in your UOI

Have a lovely Family Day weekend! I hope you all have a chance to spend some quality family time together.
