MYP Shakespeare Play ‘The Merchant of Manhattan’ is happening on Tuesday, March 1 @ 7:00 PM…EVERYONE IS INVITED TO WATCH THIS WONDERFUL PERFORMANCE. Doors open at 6:30 PM with free childcare. Performance begins at 7:00 PM.

SJA’s next bake sale will happen Tuesday, March 1 & Wednesday, March 2.

Hatch and squash after school activity forms due by Wednesday, March 2.

CN Tower field trip is taking place on Thursday, March 3. All students will be expected to wear their full uniform. We will be leaving at 8:45 am!

MATH

Today was our unit math test. It consisted of using the first initial of their name and creating a rotation, translation, and reflection with it. They turned out wonderful!

LANGUAGE

Today we worked on spelling lesson #22 activities. We also read chapter 11 of ‘Stuart Little.’

UOI

Today we continued working on our maps. They have begun colouring and things are taking shape. For this summative, students will be working in groups to create a map of an urban and rural community. We will be looking for things such as roads, hospitals, stores, bank, a dump (located outside of the city), houses, highways, and as we move out to the country we should see more green land, houses spread apart, farms, etc. This summative will be due Wednesday, March 2, as our CN Tower trip is on Thursday and then Friday is the last day of school before March Break. I have attached a picture of the rubric and an example of what I am looking for.

MATH

Today we examined rotations. Another word for rotations is a turn. An image can turn ¼, ½, or ¾ . Our art unit test will now take place on Monday, February 29. It will consist of students drawing their first initial in block letters and creating a reflection, rotation, and translation with it.

LANGUAGE

Today had our lesson 21 spelling test and as well we read chapter 10 of ‘Stuart Little.’

We missed math today due to our UOI summative and oral presentations. We will pick it up tomorrow.  This will be a short unit with only 3-4 lessons and we will do an ‘art’ project as our unit test, which will most likely happen on Wednesday, March 2.

LANGUAGE

Today was our Oral Presentation Day. A huge congratulations to Tomas (1^st), Laryssa (2^nd) and Kamaljeet (3^rd) for representing the grade 4’s. I am very proud and you all did a fantastic job. You are excellent risk-takers!

Today we examined how a shape/image creates a reflection. A reflection is when a shape/image flips. Yesterdays lesson was on translation, which is when a shape/image slides.  This will be a short unit with only 3-4 lessons and we will do an ‘art’ project as our unit test, which will most likely happen on Wednesday, March 2.

LANGUAGE

Today we read chapter 8 of ‘Stuart Little’ and answered some comprehension questions. We also had a bullying workshop in support of Anti-Bullying Day!

Oral Presentation Day will take place tomorrow, Thursday, February 25. Please note that family members ARE more than welcome to join us and support our talented SJA students! Our top 3 students (Laryssa, Tomas, and Kamaljeet) will present their speeches beginning at 12:00 PM.
