Good afternoon everyone!

I hope everyone had a great night!

Thank you to all of the grade 4’s for making the Remembrance Day ceremony so wonderful. We had short notice, but we were able to pull it together. Excellent job grade 4’s!! I am very proud of you all!

Important information and reminders:

No school this Friday (Remembrance Day) or Monday (PD Day).

The SJA Parent Guild has partnered with classes and teachers to help raise funds for technology items. Each class has chosen a specific theme and will create a gift basket to be auctioned off at the Christmas Concert on Wednesday, December 21. Our grade 4 class has chosen to put together a ‘baby basket.’ We are encouraging each student to donate $10 or buy an item(s) valued at $10. Please return the ‘Classroom Basket Auction’ form with item or money donation no later than Tuesday, November 15. These forms have been sent home. We thank in you advance for your donation.

Skating forms are due by November 16.

The MYP students are putting together a used winter clothing drive for Syrian Refugee families living in Mississauga. We are asking for gently used winter gear such as hats, mitts, snow pants, boots, coats, scarves, etc. The clothing drive will run from October 27 until November 18.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!! That’s right grade 4 parents. Our annual Holiday Fundraiser is back and running until November 18. Order forms have been sent home. This is a wonderful opportunity to begin shopping for the holiday season, which is fast approaching. Money raised will be going towards technology items, which we desperately need!! Ask your family, neighbours, and co-workers to support this fantastic fundraiser... we have cookies, treats, and gift cards! We did extremely well last year so lets see if we can do even better! Thank you so much in advance for your support!

Aftercare invoices have been sent home. All payments are due by November 18.

Scholastic orders are due by November 25.

LANGUAGE:

Today we used our language period to practice our Remembrance Day ceremony. We also did some work on our science fair. We examined what a hypothesis is and we created our own hypothesis for our experiments. Everyone is really doing a great job. Keep up the great work!

Homework - Remember to read for 30 minutes each night!

-We will be working everyday on our Science Fair journal. The Science Fair experiment is to be completed the weekend of November 19th and 20th. Good copy and display board set up begins Monday, November 21 and continues on Tuesday, November 22. In class presentations will happen on Wednesday, November 23 and we will be officially judged on Thursday, November 24. We will be working through our Science Fair journal every day – no work should be completed at home! Some helpful websites are sciencebuddies.org or http://www.ontariosciencecentre.ca/Resources/Sciencefair/

MATH:

Today we completed our first lesson of our 4th unit – length, area, and perimeter. Today we focused on estimating and measuring centimetres. We came to find out that linear dimensions are the length, width, height, thickness, and depth of an object. We also discovered that 100 cm = 1 m. We also found out that a road is measured in km (kilometres), the height of a tree is measured in m (metres), and the length of a book is measured in cm (centimetres).

Homework – MMS pg 140-141

Unit of Inquiry:

Today we looked at the difference between natural light and artificial light. Ask me what it is!! We listed types of each, answered questions, and then began to fill in a chart in which we had to tell is a picture was natural/artificial, if it could be reflected, and if it gives of hot or cool heat.

Homework – finish ‘Light in our Lives’ sheets – 4 pages all together including chart

-bring in empty paper towel or toilet paper rolls for tomorrow

I hope you have a wonderful night!
