Good afternoon everyone!
I hope you had a great night!
What a fantastic day I had
with my ‘grade 4’s’ today. There was a lot of us but we managed. We began the
day with an introductory game. I had to say the name of each student and if I
got it wrong they were awarded house points. Thankfully I only had to give away
a few house points! I also told them a little bit about me. I have to boys at
home – Carter is 5 and Kase is 3. I have a fur baby, Gretz, who is 7 and my
husbands name is Mark! Then we played a game of 10 and 20. Then they went to
French with Mme. Stella. Upon our return to the class we played ‘Sparkle,’ a
spelling game in which students are given a word and then students say one
letter at a time. We also played a round of addition
‘Around the World,’ in which students battle against each other to say the
correct answer and move around the room. Congratulations to Himmat, who made it
around the world! After lunch we worked on some word searches, cross words, and
math pages. We also got funky, played ‘Heads Up 7-Up,’ and ‘Darling Will You
Smile.’ After second recess and lunch we headed off the gym with Mr. O! We
ended the day sharing some of the stories we created before packing up and heading home.
Thank you ‘grade 4’s’ for making Year Ahead Day so wonderful!
Playing '10!'
The amazing grade 4's!
Getting funky!
Playing 'Darling will you smile!'
Heads up, 7 up!

care payment due
Important information and reminders:
It is hard to believe, but the
time is here already – re-registration is upon us! Re-registrations
forms have been sent home. The deadline to re-register is February 10.
After that we open up spaces to the public. Do not delay – reserve your spot

News about our lunch
program - SJA is excited to announce that our lunch ordering system has now been
upgraded!
Beginning today you will place all lunch orders on-line. The ordering
system is more simplified and easy to navigate.
Below are the instructions on how to order and how to pay:
2. Click on the link. Don't have an
account? Register and
register your child based on your email address, their grade, and classroom
teacher name. (You can register more than one child)
3. Verify your email account through the
email sent
4. Log-in and look for the tab manage lunch
on the top left of the page
5. Select add new lunch form
6. Select student name and payment method
7. Check off the boxes for your selections
for each day
8. Press save
9. The program will then take you to a
screen that will give you the total you owe for the month
10. Please place amount owing (in agenda) in a zip lock bag
clearly labelled with student first and last name as well as teacher name.
We recognize the process is new and may be confusing so we appreciate
your understanding in this matter. If you have any questions or concerns
regarding the ordering process, please do not hesitate to contact Ms. Smith
at bsmith@stjudesacademy.com to set up
an appointment time to assist you in the ordering process.
******Please place all orders by January 27Th 2017. Please
keep in mind that after this date no orders can be accepted as the site will
close until the new month. We will send reminders and blog posts to ensure you
do not miss the deadline. ******

-French spelling test on Friday
-Research for speech due Thursday
Math
Remember that when you answer a division question with a remainder it
should read 2 R3 (11/4 = 2 R3 (2 x 4 = 8 + 3 = 11)).
We found out that any number divided by 1 will be that number (9/1 = 9)
and any number divided by itself will be 1 (9/9 = 1). We used arrays to help
us. For example 12/3 = *** = 12 total * with 3 in each row = 4 total groups
***
***
***
We also used our multiplication chart to help us. For example, 50/5 =
10. We find 50 on the chart, find the 5, and then find the other number that
will be our answer (10)! We quickly realized that with just 3 numbers we could
create 4 equations, 2 multiplication equations, and 2 division equations. For
example 30/5 = 6, 30/6=5, 5x6=30, and 6x5=30. There are the same 3 numbers in
each equation, just switched around.
Some multiplication strategies are repeated
addition – 3 x 4 = 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 12, using
arrays (pictures) - **** **** **** = 3 x 4 = 12. There are 3 groups with
4 in each group. Skip counting is
another strategy - 5 x 7 = 5, 10, 15 20, 25, 30, 35 OR 2 x 6 = 2, 4, 6, 8, 10,
12. Using a number line or multiplication chart are other useful
strategies. Remember that 5 x 8 = 40 and so does 8 x 5 = 40, any number x 1
will be that number (10 x 1 = 10) and any number x 0 will always be 0 (9 x 0 =
0).
Homework – MMS pg 74-75
due Thursday
-Math test on Monday, January 30 – review will be sent home later this
week
UOI
Homework – Our UOI summative
will be due Friday, January 27. ALL
WORK IS TO BE COMPLETED IN CLASS. Students will have to create their own
religion from scratch. They will be given a template to brainstorm ideas and
then form a display board with all the information. The first week will mostly
be spent on rough copies with final copies and display board set up the following
week. Students will need to bring in their own display board. GOOD COPIES ARE DUE THURSDAY, JANUARY 26 AS
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 25 IS YEAR AHEAD DAY. EVERYTHING MUST BE READY TO BE PUT ON
THE BOARD THURSDAY.
-UOI presentations begin Friday
Have a lovely night!
