A note from Oakwood – On Friday, March 29, Oakwood Academy will be holding A Silent Dance. A ‘Silent Dance’ is a dance in which students are given individual headphones where they can listen to various types of music while controlling the volume.  This dance is an amazing way to foster inclusion and provide an opportunity for everyone to participate in a school dance. It provides a sensory friendly environment for all students at both Oakwood and St. Jude’s.  Admission to the dance will be $15.00 cash and this will include a drink. Please send back permission form and the $15 cash no later than Monday, February 26. Please see letter sent home today for further information.

MATH:

Today we did a review of some of the topics covered this far.

Key points to remember:

A polygon is a closed figure with 3 or more sides.

A quadrilateral is a type of polygon, but a quadrilateral has 4 sides.

3 types of triangles; an equilateral, isosceles, and scalene. An equilateral triangle has all 3 sides equal. An isosceles triangle has 2 equal sides, and a scalene triangle has no equal sides.

Angles:

An acute angle is less than 90 degrees, a right angle is 90 degrees and makes an L. An obtuse angle is between 90 and 180 degrees. 180 degrees makes a straight line.

An acute triangle has angles less than 90 degrees, an obtuse triangle has angles greater than 90 degrees, and a right angle has one 90 degree angle.

A rectangle has 4 right angles, a parallelogram has 2 pairs of equal angles, and a kite has 1 pair of equal angles.

When looking at polygons, a regular polygon has all sides and all angles equal. For example a square and an equilateral triangle. An irregular polygon does not have any sides or angles that are equal.

Homework:

-Finish math from today
-Geometry math test will take place on Thursday, March 8

LANGUAGE:

Today we read chapter 6 of The Door In The Wall. Robin, Brother Luke, and John-go-in-the-Wynd find shelter at an inn after realizing they went the wrong way. Two men staying at the inn plan to robe Robin. Robin overhears them discussing this and the three narrowly escape. Ask me how the two robbers got tangled up. We also had our spelling test for lesson #21.

Homework:

-Read for 40 minutes
-Sign and return spelling test – wrong words written out 10 x

UNIT OF INQUIRY:

Today we began looking at castles. We read about castles, defined some castles vocabulary, and began discussing in our groups the rough outline for our castles.

Homework:

-Sign and return Medieval Times summative outline and rubric
-Bring in boxes, empty paper towel and toilet paper rolls
-UOI Summative due Friday, March 9 – more info to come

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
