Good afternoon everyone!

I hope you had a wonderful night. Easter Spirit Day is on Tuesday – be sure to wear your Easter colours. Summer uniform begin on Wednesday. Please note that on Friday, April 6, a photographer will be coming to take some pictures for our website and upcoming items. Students in Grade 4 and up will be required to wear their full winter uniform, including button up white shirt, sweater vest, academic tie (not the house tie), and blazer.

Thank you to all of the students who took part in Oakwood’s ‘Silent Dance.’ All funds raised today will go towards sensory items for our friends at Oakwood.

MATH:

Today we did some Easter activities.

Key points to remember:

Coordinates can be used to describe locations on a grid or map. There are 2 kinds of coordinate systems. The first is on a map, in which the coordinate refers to a square. The second is on a grid, in which the coordinate refers to a point.

Transformationsrotations (turn), reflections (flip), and translations (slide). For a translation you must also include the description of the movements, such as 4 squares up and 3 squares to the right. Please note that the figure/shape must remain the same size!

Homework:

-Math sheets – pg 1 all questions & pg 2-3 only the circled ones
-Unit math test on Tuesday, April 10

LANGUAGE:

Today we finished our OWA’s, DRA surveys, and had a spelling test. We also did some Easter activities and visited our reading buddies.

Homework:

-Frindle activity #1 due on Tuesday
-Sign and return spelling test – wrong words written out 10 X
-Read for 40 minutes

UNIT OF INQUIRY:

Today continued discussing the rock cycle. We reviewed what we learned about it yesterday and re-created the rock cycle by completing a cut and paste activity. 

Homework:

-Begin collecting pebbles (very teeny tiny rocks) and place in a Ziploc bag with your name on it
-Sign and return Medieval Times comic strip

Good afternoon everyone!

I hope you had a wonderful night. Tomorrow is Autism Awareness Day. We are asking that all students dress in blue to show support for friends with Autism. If you child is not participating tomorrow, they will be required to wear their full uniform. Oakwood will be holding another bake sale tomorrow!

A note from Ms. Ross - February after care invoices have been sent out and payments were due on March 19th. If a child’s after care invoice has not been paid in full by March 29th, then the report card will be held until payment has been received.  

A note from Ms. Bancud - You are now able to order for April Lunches. The deadline for April lunches is Friday, March 29th, 2018.  After this date, our system closes and is unable to open for April ordering.  Please make sure your child is under the correct grade. http://mydigitalmailroom.com/sja

This month's special is 1 Pancake with Vanilla Cream for $2.50 with a side of syrup and 3 Pancakes with Vanilla Cream for $5.00 that will be available every Friday!

    • Shortly after completing your order, a Freshbooks invoice will be sent to your email.
    • It may take one or two days to process your order to Freshbooks, so please be check your email diligently for the invoice.  
  • We no longer accept cheque as a method of payment.

A note from Oakwood – On Friday, March 29, Oakwood Academy will be holding A Silent Dance. A ‘Silent Dance’ is a dance in which students are given individual headphones where they can listen to various types of music while controlling the volume.  This dance is an amazing way to foster inclusion and provide an opportunity for everyone to participate in a school dance. It provides a sensory friendly environment for all students at both Oakwood and St. Jude’s.  Admission to the dance will be $15.00 cash and this will include a drink, a wireless headset, a raffle ticket, and a slice of pizza. Please see letter sent home today for further information.

Today we watched a Bill Nye the Science Guy video on rocks. We filled in a worksheet as we watched the video. We also began to discuss the rock cycle, which we will continue tomorrow.

Good afternoon everyone!

I hope you had a wonderful night. Oakwood is hosting a bake sale tomorrow, so don’t forget to bring in some money for some yummy treats. Tomorrow will also be the last day to hand in the Silent Dance forms and money. The Silent Dance will take place on Thursday from 12:45-2 and a wireless headset. Casual day will also take place tomorrow.

LANGUAGE:

Today we read chapters 1-3 of Frindle. Some students finished reading quickly so they began their first activity. The way this novel study will work is each week we will independently read 3 chapters and complete 1 activity to go along with the 3 chapters.

Homework:

-Finish reading chapters 1-3 of Frindle or read for 40  minutes if Frindle is complete

UNIT OF INQUIRY:

Today we took some time to explore different rocks. We went outside quickly to collect some from the school ground and then we discussed ways to classify or sort rocks. There are five main ways to do so; colour, shape, size, texture (smooth, rough), and lustre (does the rock shine or have sparkles). Next we classified the rocks we collected using the 5 ways we discussed.
