Good afternoon everyone!
I hope everyone had a great night!
I look forward to seeing you
tonight for Parent/Teacher Interviews. A kind reminder that all interviews will
be 10 minutes long!
Important information and reminders:
It is hard to believe, but the
time is here already – re-registration is upon us! Re-registrations
forms were sent home today. The deadline to re-register is February 9.
After that we open up spaces to the public. Do not delay – reserve your spot
today for grade 5!
After school activity forms are due by Friday, December 9.
January lunch forms are due no later than Friday, December 16.
Christmas break PD day information was sent home via email. Camps are happening on Friday,
December 23, Monday, January 9, and Tuesday, January 10. The PD day runs
from 7:30-5 and costs $20, however does not include lunch. Students must bring
in their own lunch and snack. Registration is limited to the first 36 children.
The Annual Christmas Food
and Toy Drive is now underway at St. Jude's Academy and will run until December 21! We
would like to welcome families to send in new (unopened) toys and
non-perishable food items to be donated to local families in need. Food items
will be donated to the Eden Food Bank, and all toys collected will be donated
to the CTV Salvation Army Toy Drive Fund. We are also encouraging families to
bring a non-perishable food item to the Christmas Concert as your 'ticket' to
the show. Thank you in advance for your support.
The Christmas concert will be taking place on Wednesday, December 21. There will be an
afternoon show and an evening show. The afternoon show begins at 12:00 noon and
the evening show begins at 7:00 PM. All students should attend. The theme this
year is ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas!’ We have begun practicing with Mr.
Oliver and the other grade 4 class. We are singing ‘You’re a Mean One, Mr.
Grinch’ and playing ‘Jingle Bells’ on the recorder. Just a reminder that our
costumes will be the grey school uniform pants, a plain green shirt (if
possible!!), a scarf, and hat. SJA Parent Guild will also be auctioning off the
baskets that each classroom put together and there will be light refreshments.
It is bound to be a wonderful night!!
LANGUAGE:
Today we began work on how to write a recount. This is in preparation
for our term 2 OWA. A recount is the retelling/recounting of an event that has
happened in the past or the retelling of a story. It focuses on the five w’s and
linking words such as first, second, third, next, then, after, after that,
finally, etc. Today our focus was on the retelling of our Science Fair
projects. We also practiced for the Christmas concert and created a Christmas
art piece (a sting of lights) and coloured in some ornaments!

Today we focused on reading information from two graphs – the pictograph
and bar graph. A pictograph uses pictures/symbols and has a key. A bar graph
uses bars and has a scale! Remember that all graphs have a title and labels.
