A note from your Grade 6 class : Dear SJA Families,
The
Grade 6 class invites you to attend the Exhibition on Friday, May 5, 2017, from
9 am to 11 am, or from 6 pm to 8 pm in the auditorium.
The
Exhibition is the culminating task of the IB Primary Years Programme. It is
where students work collaboratively to explore a local issue that interests
them. This year’s Grade 6s have chosen the following topics to
explore:
Terrorism
Elder Abuse/Neglect
Physician-Assisted Dying
Developmental Disabilities
Animal Abuse/Neglect
Immigration
Garbage Pollution
Climate Change
Crime
Some
great reasons why you should attend if your child is NOT in Grade 6 include:
· Supporting
and celebrating with the Grade 6s
· Learning
about these issues
· Being
aware of what will be expected of your child when they are in Grade 6
We
hope to see you then.
Sincerely,
The
Grade 6 Class
We
will be viewing the presentations next Friday. This is a 6 week long project that
the Grade 6’s work very hard on. So please feel free to come and support the
Grade 6’s!
Language
Today we continued work on our magazine article. This is in preparation
for our OWA post-assessment, which hopefully will happen next week! We decided to forgo the library and head outside!
Homework – Read for at
least 30 minutes
-Frindle activity #2 due Monday, May 1
Math
Today we reviewed our lesson from yesterday. We now know that a fraction
is an equal part of a whole. The top number of the fraction is the numerator
(the part) and the bottom number of a fraction is the denominator (the whole).
Our lesson today focused on fraction benchmarks. For example, 2/10 is close to
0, 5/8 is close to one half and 9/10 is close to 1.
Homework – MMS pg
118-119
UOI
Today we continued to work on our summative assessment for Rocks and
Minerals. Today we continued our rough copy and good copies of our persuasive
letter on whether or not we should build a quarry. Those who were finished
created envelopes for their letters.
Homework – Good copy of
letter is due tomorrow.
Have a great night!
Mrs. Hocevar J
