MATH:

Today we began our first lesson on Unit 1: Number Patterns. This is a short unit, so our first math test will be on Tuesday, September 19. A review will be sent home to help students study.

Today we began by reviewing what different types of patterns there are. A growing pattern grows and gets bigger – 3, 4, 6, 9, 13. A shrinking pattern gets smaller – 12, 10 8, 6, and a repeating pattern repeats itself, using a core pattern 8, 5, 1, 8, 5, 1. The core is 8, 5, 1. We also discussed pattern rules. A pattern rule tells us the number to start at and what we should go up or down by. A pattern rule is always written like this – Start at 5 and add 1 each time.

Homework:

MMS page 8 # 5 & 6.

LANGUAGE:

Today was our first spelling lesson. We learned about consonants. We wrote the words in our agenda and then completed the corresponding activities.

Homework:

Finish spelling lesson #1 if not completed in class.

UNIT OF INQUIRY:

Today we began our first unit – Oh Canada. Today we did a KWL chart (what we know, want to know and what we learned). We also created a title page.

Homework:

Finish title page if not already completed.

Friday Fun!
