MATH:
Today we were at The City Church rehearsing for our
Arts’ Night performance. Math test will
take place tomorrow.
Key points to remember:
For three digit
multiplication - 2 x 200 x 6. I can
multiply 2 x 200 = 400 and then 400 x 6 = 2400 – remember to make it easy for
yourself – multiply 4 x 6 = 24 then add the 2 zeros.
Algebra is
a way to solve an equation where you are missing a part of the question. For
example A x 5 = 45. All we do to solve this question is bring the 5 to the
other side of the = sign. So, A = 45/5 = 9, so A = 9. We need to make sure we
change the operation from x to / when we move the 5.
Graphing
Patterns - Juanita is
paid $6 an hour to mow lawns. For 2 hours she is paid $12, for 4 hours she is
paid $24, for 6 hours she is paid $36, and for 8 hours she is paid $48. The
pattern rule for this question is, multiply the hours work by 2 (2 x 6 =12, 6 x
8 =48). Remember when creating your
graphs to include a title, two labels, an appropriate scale, and to use the
information in the charts/tables.
Homework:
-Math test tomorrow
LANGUAGE:
Today we found some time in between rehearsals to
begin spelling lesson #35 – homonyms. A homonym is a word that sounds the same,
but that has a different meaning and spelling. For example, tail and tale - the
old folk tale is about a mouse who lost its tail.
We also continued to practice our Arts’ Night
performance. The song that we are singing is ‘Parents Just Don’t Understand’ by
Will Smith, which is a rap song. For our costumes/outfits, I am asking for jean
(baggy if possible), t-shirts, skater shoes/jogging shoes, baseball hats (we
will wear them sideways), and big gold chains. Our Arts’ Night performance will
take place on Wednesday, May 30th. There will be two performances, one in the
afternoon (1:30 PM) and one in the evening beginning at 7:00 PM. We are asking
that all students arrive at The City Church no later that 6:30 PM.
Homework:
-Read
40 minutes
-Finish
spelling lesson #35 if not complete in class
