Unit of Inquiry

Today we defined matter and discussed the three that we will focus on - solid, liquid, and gas. We learned what an atom and molecule are and how the molecules differ in each state. We read information on each state and we watched a couple of videos - one for gas (Gas Bubble Demonstration) and one for solid (Ball and Ring). We also did a quick experiment using hot water, cold water, and food colouring. Ask me what happened in the experiment and in the videos!!

Everyone did a great job researching how many states of matter there were. Most came up with 4 - solid, liquid, gas, and plasma. However there were a few that come up with 7 or 8 and included dark matter!! Great job gang!!

Waiting for the experiment to happen!

In the cold water the particles............

In the hot water the particles...........

Hot vs. cold water!

Hot water blows the bubble in the outside of the bottle!

Cold water creates a bubble on the inside of the bottle!

Homework

Inquiry into Mathematics

Today we learned about 1,000,000. We used multiplication and division strategies to help us. For example, for multiplication 100 x 10 = 1,000 (we multiply 1 x 1 to get 1 and then add 3 zeros – 2 in 100 and 1 in 10 = 1,000) and for division 1,000,000/100,000 = 10 (1/1 = 1 and then we took away 5 zeros from 100,000 and 5 zeros from 1,000,000 which left us with 10).

Points to Remember

Homework

- MMS pg 12 and 13

Inquiry into Language

Today we read out loud chapter 1 of Percy Jackson and began completing our chapter 1 comprehension questions. Students also finished up their DRAs.

Homework

- Complete 3 questions/predictions and questions 1-5 of chapter 1

Working on P.J. and DRAs!

Have a wonderful night!
