Look at these two battling for first place in the hula-hoop off!! Great job to both who eventually tied for first - they could have gone on for ever!!
Today we met with our JK reading buddies! We only had a few short minutes to read to them today, but we look forward to reading to them again soon! The rest of the day
was a rather boring day in Grade 5. We wrote our OWA pre-assessment and our
DRA. I hope to grade the DRAs by the end of next week, so that anyone who needs
to be re-tested can do so the following week.
Reading with our reading buddies for the first time!
Working on our OWA pre-assessment!
Unit of Inquiry
Our
first unit will be ‘What’s the Matter’ and will begin on Monday. We will be
exploring three states of matter, completing experiments, and participate
in a Scientist in the School workshop. Our summative will be our science fair
project. Stay tuned for more information.
Homework
Inquiry into
Mathematics
Our
first unit will begin on Monday and will focus on whole numbers. This unit
should take us to the end of the month with the test taking place sometime
during the last week.
Points to Remember
Homework
Inquiry into Language
Our
first novel study will be Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief.
This novel study will consist of comprehension questions with aspects of our
DRA (Diagnostic Reading Assessment) tied in. Weekly spelling lessons and tests
will begin on Monday. Our DRAs will be completed this week for Term 1. All
students will be tested at a DRA level 50, which is grade level. Students will
be re-tested at a lower if necessary.

Have
a wonderful weekend!
