Good afternoon everyone!

I hope you had a great weekend and had fun in the snow. It was Kase’s birthday party on Saturday and despite the weather everyone enjoyed themselves playing hockey and eating pizza and cake! Carter also played his first hockey game using full ice. He was so excited he was up at 6:30 with his bed made and dressed in his long johns...and his game wasn't until 9:00!! My parents are also visiting for a few days, which meant another birthday cake/celebration for Kase! Birthdays last at least a week in our house!!

Full ice hockey!

Happy birthday bud!

Snow day fun!

Birthday celebrations with Nana and Papa!

Dear SJA Community,

We look forward to seeing you at the SJA Town Hall/Social on January 24 from 7 to 9 pm.  All parent/guardians of JK to Grade 12 students are invited to hear about our exciting school year, survey result and future direction. To help us plan for this event, RSVP by January 17 to reception@stjudesacademy.com . We look forward to seeing you there!

Skiing/Snowboarding
Our next extra-curricular activity is skiing/snowboarding at Glen Eden Ski Resort. The dates of the trip are January 22, February 19 and March 4. Please do not order lunch for these days; it will not be saved nor will a reimbursement be given. We will be leaving at 7:00 AM and returning by 4:00 PM at the latest. All rentals are included, however students are more than welcome to bring their own. Please do not order hot lunch for these days as we will be eating lunch at the ski hill – students are welcome to bring money to purchase food and drink items. Students must ensure they are dressed in appropriate ski gear; warm socks, long johns with comfy clothes, snow pants, warm mitts, a face protector (if possible) and a ski jacket. Please note that if students chose skiing, they will ski all three times. If students pick snowboarding, they will snowboard all three times. All students will have to pass each level before they are granted permission to ski on the big hill, no matter what their experience.

Students will be using their summative package to assist them in completing the summative. Students will be responsible for including a diagram of the system, what organs are part of that system, how the system works, what that system is responsible for, how that system is connected to others in the body, and how to keep that system healthy.

Inquiry into Mathematics

Today we continued our Data Management test, which will be due tomorrow at the end of our math period. It will consist of students creating a survey question, surveying a certain number of students, creating three separate graphs and inferring information from their graphs. We will also be finding the mean, mode and median, as well as drawing a scatter plot and finding coordinates.

Our next math unit is also a short one, Patterns in Numbers and Geometry, and will take us until the first week of February.

Inquiry into Language

Today we took a break from speeches. We began spelling lesson #17 – words with ai, ay, oi and oy and words with prefixes sub, mid, bi and tri. Tomorrow we will continue with speeches. Students may use Word or Google Docs tomorrow to write their speech. We also had the opportunity to stop by Ms. Hughes's Grade 2 class to look at their art projects - well done!
