PARENT HOMEWORK
As per the email sent out a couple of weeks ago, the staff at
St. Jude’s is conducting a self-study. The self-study is a requirement of the
International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO). The self-study is taking place now as it is almost 4
years since our IB evaluation visit. The purpose of the self-study is to ensure
that we are maintaining the IB programme standards and practices. We are asking
that parents and guardians with students in JK to grade 6 take the time to
complete a small survey by Friday,
October 21. Your input
will form part of the self-study report that is submitted to the IBO and will
help direct further action that needs to be taken by staff at our school. The
survey link has been posted below and only takes about 5 minutes to complete!
We thank you in advance for your participation!

LANGUAGE:
Today we read another chapter of Anne of Green Gables. We also took some
time to complete the student survey for the self-study. Remember to read for 30
minutes each night!
MATH:
Today we began our 3rd unit – Measurement. We began to day
with exploring units of time. We used words such as decade, century, and
millennium. We discovered that 1 hour has 60 minutes in it, 1 day has 24 hours
in it, 1 week has 7 days, 1 month has about 4 weeks, 1 year has 12 months-52
weeks-365 days, 1 decade is 10 years, 1 century is 10 decades or 100 years, and
1 millennium is 10 centuries or 1000 years. Homework – MMS pg. 88-89
UOI:
Today we continued summative assessment. I showed a small clip of the
Dragon Den to assist students. Everyone is well on their way to having a great
presentation. I am very happy with the work effort that has been put forth. As
per the handout sent home on the weekend, students will be working in
pairs/groups to convince us that their province deserves money. It is similar
to Shark Tank/Dragons Den! The due date
for this summative will be Friday, October 21. All work for this assignment
will be done in class. Presentations will be on Friday, October 21.
Have a wonderful night!
Mrs. Hocevar J
Hard at work as always on their summative projects!
