Good evening everyone!

I hope everyone had a wonderful night!

Some students are receiving after care invoices. Please pay the after school fee as soon as possible.

A kind reminder to not park, or stop, in the handicap parking spots, unless you have a permit. We have families who do need these spots and often come to find them taken up by cars without permits. Please pass this note along to anyone who may pick up your child/children. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

I sent home the Polar Expressions Publishing letter and information a few weeks back. I strongly encourage students to enter on their own time. One of my students placed third last year in the short poem category. Please keep in mind the due dates – poetry deadline is tomorrow, November 15 and the short story deadline is November 30. Good luck!

Science Fair has also began. Again, all work is to be completed in class, except the actual experiment, which is to be completed 3 times during the weekend of November 25. Students can videotape/take pictures of themselves conducting the experiment to have with them during presentations. We will be working this every day, taking it one element at a time. Students should be prepared to begin good copies on Monday, November 27. We will be holding in class presentations on Wednesday, November 29 after our Sound workshop. Students will be judged on Thursday, November 30 and parents are welcome to view the projects from 2:30-3:15. I have sent home the Science Fair journal which we will be using. Please review it and the due dates, and sign and return it tomorrow.

Lockdown – Today we had a practice Lockdown drill. The Grade 4’s did a fantastic job. Everyone remained quiet and was respectful of what was happening.

MATH:

Today we had our pre-assessment for our next unit – Length, Perimeter, and Area. This unit will take us into Term 2!

Homework:

-Sign and return math test

LANGUAGE:

Today we read the last chapter of Anne of Green Gables. It was amazing to see how the students became more and more involved with each chapter we read. In this final chapter, we find out that Matthew has a heart attack and passes away. Ask me why he had a heart attack. We also learn that Gilbert was supposed to take over the school in Avonlea, but gave it up to Anne, so she could stay back and help Marilla at Green Gables.

Homework:

-Reading for 40 minutes
-Sign and return Science Fair package

UNIT OF INQUIRY:

Today we learned how we see. We realized that light passes through the cornea, which bends the light. The iris controls how much light enters our pupil. The lens focuses the light/image on the retina, which converts cells into electric signals. These signals then travel to our brain through the optic nerve. We see with our brains. We also did a reading and comprehension activity on the Sun, which is a natural light source.

Homework:

-Summative begins on Friday – all work is to be completed at school
-Summative presentations Friday December 1

I hope you have a wonderful night!
