Good evening everyone!
I hope everyone had a
wonderful night!
A kind reminder to not park, or stop, in the handicap parking spots. We have families who do need these spots and often come to find them taken up by cars without permits. Please pass this note along to anyone who may pick up or drop off your child/children. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
With
the colder weather upon us now, please send appropriate outdoor clothing to
school with your child. Coats, hats, mitts, and boots will help keep your child
warm during recess. Students will not be allowed to stay inside because
they are not dressed properly. My rule is if mom and dad send it to school
you wear it outside!
I sent home the Polar Expressions Publishing letter and
information a few weeks back. I strongly encourage students to enter on their
own time. One of my students placed third last year in the short poem category.
Please keep in mind the due date for the short story is November 30. Good luck!
Science Fair has begun! Again, all work is to be completed in
class, except the actual experiment, which is to be completed 3 times during
the weekend of November 25. Students can videotape/take pictures of themselves
conducting the experiment to have with them during presentations. We will be
working this every day, taking it one element at a time. Students should be
prepared to begin good copies on Monday, November 27 and set up their display
board on Tuesday, November 28. We will be holding in class presentations on
Wednesday, November 29 after our Sound workshop. Students will be judged on
Thursday, November 30 and parents are welcome to view the projects from
2:30-3:15.
March Break Camp registrations have been sent
home. If you are interested in registering you chid for our amazing March Break
camp, please send in the completed March Break camp registration form, along
with the $20 one-time non-refundable deposit. Please note that lunch is also

MATH:
Today we focused on finding the perimeter of a
rectangle. We know that a rectangle is a four-sided shape with two sides of
equal length (length and width). For example, if one side length is 8 cm, we
know that the opposite side length is also 8 cm, and if one width side is 4 cm,
then the opposite width side is also 4 cm. The formula we use to find the
perimeter is (2 x length) + (2 x width). For example, (2 x 3) + (2 x 6) = 6 +
12 = 18. Therefore the perimeter of the rectangle is 18 cm.
Key points to remember:
-
1 mm = 0.1 cm & 1 mm = 0.01 dm
-
1 cm = 10 mm (x by 10), 1 cm = 0.1 dm & 1
cm = 0.01 m
-
1 dm = 100 mm (x by 100), 1 dm = 10 cm (x by
10) & 1 dm = 0.1 m
-
1 m = 1000 mm (x by 1000), 1 m = 100 cm (x by
100) & 1 m = 10 dm (x by 10)
-
1 km = 1000 m (x by 1000)
