Good evening everyone!
I hope everyone had a
wonderful night!
If your child is having picture re-takes on Friday, please send them in their house tie and have them
bring their academic tie for picture.
Some
students are receiving after care invoices. Please pay the after school fee as
soon as possible.
A kind reminder to not park, or stop, in the handicap parking spots, unless you have a permit. We have families who do need these spots and often come to find them taken up by cars without permits. Please pass this note along to anyone who may pick up your child/children. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

I sent home the Polar Expressions Publishing letter and
information a few weeks back. I strongly encourage students to enter on their
own time. One of my students placed third last year in the short poem category.
Please keep in mind the due dates – poetry deadline is today, and the short
story deadline is November 30. Good luck!
Science Fair has begun! Again, all work is to be completed in class,
except the actual experiment, which is to be completed 3 times during the
weekend of November 25. Students can videotape/take pictures of themselves
conducting the experiment to have with them during presentations. We will be
working this every day, taking it one element at a time. Students should be
prepared to begin good copies on Monday, November 27. We will be holding in
class presentations on Wednesday, November 29 after our Sound workshop. Students
will be judged on Thursday, November 30 and parents are welcome to view the
projects from 2:30-3:15.

MATH:
Today we had our first lesson in our new unit,
measuring linear dimensions – when you measure the length, width, height,
thickness, or depth. We measure in millimetres (mm), centimetres (cm),
decimetres (dm), metres (m), and kilometres (km). Millimetres are used to
measure very small items (a dime) and centimetres or decimetres are used to
measure small thing (items between 1 cm and 1 m – the length of my foot). Metres are used to measure big items (length
of a football field) and kilometres measure distance.
Homework:
-MMS pg 126-127
LANGUAGE:
Today we did some activities on verbs. Verbs show action and what a
person, place, or thing is doing. We also focused on present tense verbs (looks),
past tense verbs (looked), and future tense verbs (will look). We also spent
some time on our Science Fair project. Today we watched a little video on the
Scientific Method and focused on the hypothesis. A hypothesis is an educated
guess/prediction of what might happen (the outcome/results of your experiment).
We begin our hypothesis with “I think,” “I predict,” or “My hypothesis is…”
Homework:
-Reading for 40 minutes
-Bring in research for your Science Fair topic
UNIT OF INQUIRY:
Today we reviewed how we see. Then we spent some time going over the
summative and what was expected. Because of the timing with the Science Fair,
we will begin our summative tomorrow. The good copy will be due next Friday with
presentations the following Friday. If students do not complete the good copy
by next Friday it will be homework the following week. It is looking like we
will be spending most of our days the week of November 27 working on our
Science Fair good copies and display boards.
Homework:
-Summative begins on tomorrow – all work is to be completed at school
-Summative presentations Friday December 1
I hope you have a wonderful night!
