Good afternoon everyone!
I hope you had a great night!
Important information and reminders:
Re-registration is upon us! Re-registrations forms have been sent home. The deadline to
re-register is February 9 (Please note date change). After that we open
up spaces to the public. Do not delay – reserve your spot for grade 5 today!
The cold snowy weather is back
for a visit! Please ensure you are sending proper outdoor gear including snow
pants, hats/earmuffs, mitts/gloves, and winter boots. Students spend at least
50 minutes outside everyday and we want them to be warm. Thank you for your
cooperation in this matter!
SJA Parent Guild is hosting another fantastic movie night and dance. It will take
place on Friday, February 24 from 6:30-9:00 PM (free childcare from 6-6:30) in
the SJA auditorium. The movie is Pixar Short Films (PG). Tickets are $10 each
and included popcorn, bottle water, and a treat. Pizza will also be available
for $2 a slice. All forms and money are due by Thursday, February 16!
A note regarding pick up:
As
we work to ensure the safest and most efficient system for student drop off, we
would like to send out a few reminders to SJA parents.
• Kiss and Ride
runs every day from 3:30 - 3:40pm. Parents choosing to not participate in the
Kiss and Ride program are asked to wait until 3:40 to enter into the school
building.
• Parents wishing
to sign their child(ren) out early may do so up until 3:20pm. Parents
may enter through the front door to sign out their child(ren). Any parents
entering through the front door before will be asked to wait at the front until
their child can be called down via the PA system. This will help to keep the
hallways cleared for dismissal and for Kiss and Ride.
• Parents
entering through the front after 3:20 will have to wait until 3:40pm to enter
the building.
Thank you for your cooperation in helping to keep our afternoon
dismissal as safe and efficient as possible.

Language
Today we continued work on our speeches. We continued writing out good
copies and conferencing. In-class recitals begin next week, and we will choose
the top 3 on Tuesday, February 21. A rubric will be sent home Friday to help
students prepare.
A reminder that all work
for speeches is to be done in class, unless other wise stated. All speeches
should be between 2-3 minutes. Thank you for your cooperation!
Homework – Read for at
least 30 minutes per day
Math
Today we looked at Quadrilaterals. A quadrilateral is a shape that has 4
sides and has angles. We examined 5 types – a square, rectangle, rhombus,
trapezoid, and a parallelogram. Students filled in a sheet to help them
remember the shapes, definitions, and pictures.
Protractor Hint – Use the t in the little circle and line that up with
the vertex. Make sure the 180-degree line is lined up straight with the bottom
line of the angle. There are 4 types of angles. A straight angle is 180 degrees
and is a straight line. A right angle is 90 degrees and looks like an L. An
acute angle is less than 90 degrees and an obtuse angle is more that 90
degrees. We made flipbooks, which included the definition of each angle, a
picture of each angle, and examples we found around the school.
Homework – MMS pg 36-37
& 40-41 - **PROTRACTORS MUST BE
RETURNED TO SCHOOL TOMORROW. THANK YOU**

Today we looked at the Black Plague. We played a game called ‘Run From
the Plague.’ It involved students picking out a green or orange tile from a
paper bag. If you picked a green tile you were safe and avoided the plague. If
you picked an orange tile you became sick with the plague and were out. We also
did a Web quest to find out more information about the plague.
Homework – Bring in
boxes and toilet paper/paper towel rolls
-Wanted Poster due Friday, February 10
-Finish Web quest using this website –
