Good afternoon everyone!

I hope you had a great weekend! We were fortunate enough to be invited to a friend’s cottage in Muskoka, so we had a weekend of hiking, tobogganing, bonfires, and even had a skate at Arrowhead Provincial Park! It was a wonderful weekend!

Skating fun at Arrowhead Provincial Park!

This morning we had the luxury of watching a presentation by ‘Earth Rangers.’ The students learned about animals and how to save them. We were treated to a show with real animals. We even saw an eagle fly!

Important information and reminders:

Re-registration is upon us! Re-registrations forms have been sent home. The deadline to re-register is February 9 (Please note date change). After that we open up spaces to the public. Do not delay – reserve your spot for grade 5 today!

The cold snowy weather is back for a visit! Please ensure you are sending proper outdoor gear including snow pants, hats/earmuffs, mitts/gloves, and winter boots. Students spend at least 50 minutes outside everyday and we want them to be warm. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter!

A note regarding pick up: As we work to ensure the safest and most efficient system for student drop off, we would like to send out a few reminders to SJA parents.

Kiss and Ride runs every day from 3:30 - 3:40pm. Parents choosing to not participate in the Kiss and Ride program are asked to wait until 3:40 to enter into the school building.

Parents wishing to sign their child(ren) out early may do so up until 3:20pm.  Parents may enter through the front door to sign out their child(ren). Any parents entering through the front door before will be asked to wait at the front until their child can be called down via the PA system. This will help to keep the hallways cleared for dismissal and for Kiss and Ride.

Parents entering through the front after 3:20 will have to wait until 3:40pm to enter the building.

Thank you for your cooperation in helping to keep our afternoon dismissal as safe and efficient as possible.

LANGUAGE

Today we continued work on our speeches. We had a chance to peer edit each other’s. Good copies begin this week, in-class recitals begin next week, and we will choose the top 3 on Tuesday, February 21.

A reminder that all work for speeches is to be done in class, unless other wise stated. All speeches should be between 2-3 minutes. Thank you for your cooperation!

Homework – Read for at least 30 minutes per day

Peer editing speeches!

MATH

Today we played a few math games. We played ‘I have, Who Has’ with different angles and Angle Jeopardy!

Protractor Hint – Use the t in the little circle and line that up with the vertex. Make sure the 180-degree line is lined up straight with the bottom line of the angle. There are 4 types of angles. A straight angle is 180 degrees and is a straight line. A right angle is 90 degrees and looks like an L. An acute angle is less than 90 degrees and an obtuse angle is more that 90 degrees. We made flipbooks, which included the definition of each angle, a picture of each angle, and examples we found around the school.

Homework – Play a game on a device for 20 minutes - must be related to angles and measuring angles

UOI

Today we began creating Medieval Times Wanted Posters! We began by looking at examples and discussing what our posters should contain. We used our Writing 4 books to brainstorm and create our rough copy. Good copy will be due on Friday, February 10.

Homework – Bring in boxes and toilet paper/paper towel rolls

- Rough copy of wanted poster due tomorrow

Have a lovely night!
