Good afternoon everyone!

I hope you had a wonderful weekend! We had a very busy one. We spent Saturday at the Georgetown Fall Fair and yesterday we took to boys to Wonderland…it was a chilly one. Carter is now tall enough to ride some of the big coaster…YIKES. He rode The Vortex - back to back, The Bat, Canadian Mine Buster, Dragon Fire, and The Wild Beast. He is one brave boy - Mark and I had to switch off after a few coasters!! Thankfully, Kase chose to stick to rides that were less scary! Kase also started hockey this weekend.

What a goof!

We will have a technology period on Friday, September 14. Please be sure to send your child with their working laptop!

Polar Expressions is back!! Students are welcome to enter on their own time. We have had great success at this is the past. Ronit won an award last year, and his poem, 'Toronto Sports' was published! Two years ago, Saanvi, a former student was also published.

Unit of Inquiry

Today we stared our first unit of the year, a science unit on MATTER! We began by filling in the K and W of our KWL chart (what we know, what we want to know, and what we learned). We will fill in the L section once our unit is nearing the end. Then we began creating our title pages. Title pages must contain the unit name, words, pictures, and of course, colour! Thank you to Joshua for showing action today. He conducted an experiment to show that mixing vinegar with baking soda creates a gas, which blew up a balloon. Very cool!

Great job, Joshua!

Inquiry into Mathematics

Today we had our first math pre-assessment of the year. We filled in as much as we could on a test about whole numbers. We will begin our first lesson tomorrow on using the number one million!

Inquiry into Language

Today we began our first spelling lesson of the year. Every Monday, or Tuesday if we have a holiday, we will be doing spelling. We will read the story and the TIP about our lesson, write our weekly words in our agendas and then complete the lesson activities. Our weekly spelling test will take place on Fridays, or Thursdays if we have a holiday. On occasion we will play ‘Sparkle,’ which is similar to a spelling bee.

Reading time!

Thank you Ms. Hayward for our first library visit!

Have a wonderful night!

Love Mrs. Hocevar
