Unit of Inquiry
Today
we read about changes of state. A change of state occurs when heat energy is
added or taken away from material. There are 4 changes of state – melting (when
a solid changes into a liquid – ice cube melting), evaporation (when a liquid
changes to a gas – boiling water), condensation (when a gas changes to a liquid
– when a water bottle becomes wet on the outside), and freezing (when a liquid
changes into a solid – water into ice cube). We also did a cut and paste
activity to show these changes of state.

Mathematics
Today
we worked with multiples. Multiples of 2 are: 2, 4, 6, 8,
10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20. Multiples of 3 are: 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21. We also looked
at common multiples, which is numbers that are the same in two or more
different sets of multiples. For example, the common multiples from the list above are
6, 12, 18. Those 3 numbers appear in both lists of multiples (2 and 3).
Points to remember:
Standard form - simply put it is
the number – 3, 258, 111.
Number written form is writing the number
using both numbers and words (3 million, 2 hundred 58 thousand, 111).
Expanded form is when we take the
number and break it down (3, 258, 111 = 3,000,000 + 200,000 + 50,000 + 8,000 +
100 + 10 + 1) – we take each digit and then add zeros!
When
using < and > signs, the alligator mouth eats the bigger number.

Today
we had our first spelling test. Any words that were spelt incorrectly, please
re-write them 5 times. We also had time to work on our PJ chapter 2
comprehension questions. Our first tech day was great. We began a typing program, which the kids loved! The lesson today focused on the home row. We were all so excited! Remember to not look at the keyboard and that your index fingers go on f and j!!
