Unit of Inquiry

Today we began thinking of our ancient civilization summative. The summative for this unit will have students recreating an ancient artifact from one of the civilizations we studied. I hope to send home the summative package tomorrow. As of now, we will be beginning the summative the week of November 18th with a due date of Thursday, November 28th.

Inquiry into Mathematics
Today we took up our Geometry math review. We will write the test tomorrow, Tuesday, November 19th.
Our next unit, Fractions, will take us right up until just before Christmas break. As of now our test will be Friday, December 13th.

Points to Remember
Angles  - acute angle is less than 900, and right angle is 900, and an obtuse angle is grater than 900 but less than 1800. We also came to realized that some angles are greater than or equal to 1800. A straight angle is 1800 and a reflex angles measure between 1800 and 360o. One complete turn is 3600. A protractor will become our best friend during this unit. Drawing a reflex angle can be tricky. Please see this video for tips!

A regular figure has equal sides and equal figures. An irregular figure does not have all side equal and does not have all angles equal. A convex polygon has all angles less than 1800 and a concave polygon has at least one reflex angle. We can classify and sort figures different ways – we can sort triangles by the number of equal sides and by angle measure and we can sort quadrilaterals in a Venn diagram.
When an angle is identified by 3 letters, the middle letter indicates the vertex of the angle. For example, angle A is also angle CAB.
