Good afternoon everyone!
I hope
you all had a wonderful day! Tomorrow is a Day 1 and music. Please do not
forget your instrument at home! Tomorrow is our Guy Fawkes Day, where we
recite the Guy Fawkes poem. Guy Fawkes planned the failed Gunpowder Plot in
1605. We recite the poems on November 5th, as that is when he was found
guarding the explosives.
Please check out our lost and found items, which is NOW
located in the gym in the far right corner. On Friday, November 8th at 4 PM all
left over items will be donated to the local Salvation Army. After care payments are due Friday, November 15th.
Our
next extra-curricular activity is curling
at the Acton Curling Club on Tuesday,
November 19th from 1-2 PM. Students are required to wear the SJA
gym clothes, indoor gym shoes, and warm clothes (coat, mitts, warm socks) as it
is cold on the ice. **A kind reminder that all students are required
to bring and wear a helmet, as per the permission form. Acceptable helmets are
ski helmets, hockey helmets, and bike helmets - no pointy edges please! Acton
Curling Club does not provide helmets.**
We had so much fun today at the Acton Curling Club. I was very impressed with how well everyone did. Looking forward to the next curling trip!
Stretching before we hit the ice!
Learning how to sweep!
Some of us were even able to let the rock go!
Caribou Math
The next Caribou Contest takes place on
Wednesday, November 13th, 2019. Participants are to arrive at 7:15
am for a 7:30 am start. Bring a charged device, preferably a laptop, iPad or
Tablet. You have one hour to write the test.
This month’s test includes an interactive
question. The interactive question will differ by grade: Tangram for Grades 2
to 4, Chomp for Grades 5 to 10, and finally a GeomeTree construction involving
triangles for Grades 11/12. You can practice these now on Caribou’s Games page. Let Caribou know if you have any
problems with the games.
Caribou strongly recommends familiarizing yourselves with these games before the contest. Because certain games pages can be used to solve the questions, these will be blocked from Tuesday morning, November 12th, (start of the contest in the far East) to Thursday evening, November 15th at 8 pm EST.
For Grades 3 to 12, there will be a history question about Emmy Noether. Students in these grades should read the relevant section of Caribou’s History page in your preferred language to prepare.
