Good afternoon everyone!
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Tomorrow
is a Day 2 and gym. Please
ensure students are dressed in their gym uniform ready to board the bus with
proper gym shoes at 9:00 AM. Students
will change into their school day uniform after gym. Tomorrow is Galaxy Dress Up Day for $2. Students may dress anything related to the Galaxy or space. See flyer below! Tomorrow and Wednesday the
Grade 1s and Grade 4s are hosting the monthly bake sale; be sure to bring in
some change to buy some baked goods. Wednesday is also casual day. A beautiful night to get some Rollerblade hockey in!
Student-led Conferences are just around the corner. They will happen on Thursday,
December 5th. Pick A Time sheets have gone home with all of the
required information. The system will go live on Thursday, November 28th
at 10:00 AM. Please be sure to correctly follow the login information using the

will last 10 minutes and an alarm will be used to keep everyone on track. If
you are late for your appointment, only the remaining time will be given. I
thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Our
Christmas Concert rehearsals are
well underway. We are dancing to Justin Bieber's 'Santa Claus is Comin to

Inquiry into
Mathematics
Today we explored ordering and comparing
decimals. There are 3 ways we can do this; using base ten blocks, using a place
value chart and using a number line.
As of now our test will be Friday,
December 13th.
Points to Remember
Most
large numbers are written in short form instead of having to write
the large number in standard form. For example, 5 ½ million is
written in standard form as 5, 500, 000. 42, 400, 000 can be written as the
decimal 42.4 million. Keep in mind the rounding rules; 0-4 round to the floor,
5-9 round to the sky.
Exploring
thousands
and writing them as fractions and decimals. We used a place value chart to help
us.

We also used base ten blocks to help.
Please see picture below. A fraction is written as 314/1000. We say it as
three-hundred and fourteen thousandths. The decimal would be 0.314.
