Good
afternoon,
I hope
everyone had a great weekend!
Just a reminder to dress
according to the ever-changing weather!
One of our MPY students,
Andrew, is doing his final project of the year on homelessness and how to stop
it. He made a wonderful presentation this morning during announcements. As part
of his initiative, he will be doing a sock and food drive beginning tomorrow.
If you would like to participate, please bring in packages of socks (kids
and/or adults) and any food drive items, such as pastas, soups, hygiene items,
diapers, and other baby items, to the classroom and I will pass them along to
Andrew. Thank you in advance for you participation.
Oakwood’s bake sale is
happening tomorrow! Lots of delicious items!
IMPORTANT DATES AND
INFORMATION:

having our in class competition on Wednesday, May 11!
A note from our grade 6’s!
Dear
SJA Families,
The
Grade 6 class invites you to attend the Exhibition on Friday, May 6, 2016, from
9 am to 11 am, or from 6 pm to 8 pm in the auditorium.
The
Exhibition is the culminating task of the IB Primary Years Programme. It is
where students work collaboratively to explore a local issue that interests
them. This year’s Grade 6s have chosen
the following topics to explore:
Poverty
Terrorism
Industrialization
Animal
Abuse
Declining
Bee Population
Racism
Issues
Facing Aboriginal Peoples on Reserves
Climate
Change
Some
great reasons why you should attend if your child is NOT in Grade 6 include:
· Supporting and
celebrating with the Grade 6s
· Learning about
these issues
· Being aware of
what will be expected of your child when they are in Grade 6
We
hope to see you then.
Sincerely,
The
Grade 6 Class

MATH
Today we looked at measuring items
in millimetres. We found out that 10 mm = 1 cm. We also found out that to
convert cm – mm we need to multiply the cm by 10. For example, 3 cm x 10 = 30
mm. We also discovered that to convert mm – cm we need to divide by 10. For example,
1 mm/10 = 0.1 cm!
LANGUAGE
Today we read chapter 3 and 4 of
our novel study. We also had our reading buddies, did 2 rounds of spelling bee practice,
and discussed outfits and props for ‘Cinderella Bigfoot.’
UOI
Today we looked what soil is and
what soil does that makes it so important. We read some information and then
discussed and answered some questions.
I hope you all have a wonderful
night!
Mrs. Hocevar J
