Good
afternoon,
I hope
everyone had a great weekend!
Just a reminder to dress
according to the ever-changing weather!
One of our MPY students,
Andrew, is doing his final project of the year on homelessness and how to stop
it. He made a wonderful presentation this morning during announcements. As part
of his initiative, he will be doing a sock and food drive beginning tomorrow.
If you would like to participate, please bring in packages of socks (kids
and/or adults) and any food drive items, such as pastas, soups, hygiene items,
diapers, and other baby items, to the classroom and I will pass them along to
Andrew. Thank you in advance for you participation.
We have begun uniform
checks again! These will happen every now and again to ensure that all SJA
students are wearing proper uniform. Uniform violations will be sent home if a
student is not wearing the proper piece of clothing! First violation: a warning
to parents. Second violation: the office will notify a parent and the correct
uniform piece must be brought to the school the same day. Third violation: uniform piece will be sent
home at parent’s expense. Fourth violation: community service hours will be
assigned.

A note from our grade 6’s!
Dear
SJA Families,
The
Grade 6 class invites you to attend the Exhibition on Friday, May 6, 2016, from
9 am to 11 am, or from 6 pm to 8 pm in the auditorium.
The
Exhibition is the culminating task of the IB Primary Years Programme. It is
where students work collaboratively to explore a local issue that interests
them. This year’s Grade 6s have chosen
the following topics to explore:
Poverty
Terrorism
Industrialization
Animal
Abuse
Declining
Bee Population
Racism
Issues
Facing Aboriginal Peoples on Reserves
Climate
Change
Some
great reasons why you should attend if your child is NOT in Grade 6 include:
· Supporting and celebrating
with the Grade 6s
· Learning about
these issues
· Being aware of
what will be expected of your child when they are in Grade 6
We
hope to see you then.
Sincerely,
The
Grade 6 Class

MATH
Today we looked at measuring items
in decimetres. We found out that 10 cm = 1 dm. We also found out that to
convert dm – cm we need to multiply the by 10. For example, 3 dm x 10 = 30 cm.
We also discovered that to convert cm – dm we need to divide by 10. For example,
50 cm/10 = 5 dm!
LANGUAGE
Today we continued work on our
novel study. I began reviewing summaries and so far we are looking good!
UOI
Today we reviewed what soil is and
took a closer look at what soil is made of!
I hope you all have a wonderful night!
