MATH
Today both the 3’s and 4’s looked at fractions as a set.
The 4’s focused on finding the fraction of each set. For example ¼ of 8 = 2,
2/5 of 10 = 4. The 3’s focused on using and drawing pictures to help them solve
questions. For example in a total of 5 balls, one is red and four and
white…what fraction is red? 1/5 of the balls are red.
LANGUAGE
Today we presented our interpretation of the phone call
scene from Mr. Popper’s Penguins. It was quite a funny scene where Mr. Popper
called City Hall to inquire about a license for his pet penguin Captain Cook.
He ended up speaking to an elderly lady who could not hear at all so in the end
Mr. Popper was called all sorts of names like Mr. Topper and Mr. Potter. She
also thought Captain Cook was a captain in the Army and that his first name was
Benjamin! I have to say I was not overly impressed with the skits. Many groups were very silly and strayed away from the material. Perhaps we will try again!
U.O.I.
Today we examined igneous rocks! We did another experiment
with marbles and a box. We found that as we shook the box the temperature rose which caused the marbles to change position and become layered! Then they began brainstorming for their story. They
have to write as if they were an igneous rock and talk about all the changes
they go through and what they look like after!
Remember to bring a reusable water bottle tomorrow for
1000 house points!
Practising for the skit!
Aryan singing O'Canada!
Thank you Aziz for bringing in your book on Minerals!
The skits!
Have a wonderful night!
