Good afternoon everyone!

I hope you all had a wonderful day! Monday is a Day 2 and gym. Please ensure students are dressed in their gym uniform ready to board the bus with proper gym shoes at 9:00 AM.  Students will change into their school day uniform after gym. The French play permission forms and payments are due Monday, October 21st. Casual Day forms are due by Friday, October 25. Please submit the form indicating if your child(ren) will or will not be participating.  Please note that Casual Day was not included in registration this year, so if you would like your child(ren) to participate, please submit the form and $20 cash payment.

Monday is the soccer tournament for many Grade 5 students. They have been assigned homework (spelling lesson #7 and MMS pg 82-83), which is due Tuesday. Students are to come dressed in their SJA school day uniform and bring with them their shin pads, indoor soccer shoes, water, a disposable lunch and money (if you feel like sending it). Students must arrive to the school for 7:15 AM, with hopes of being back at the school before 5:00 PM.

A note from Ms. Hayward - Yesterday (October 17) marked the first day of Secret Path Week.
Commemorating the legacies of Gord Downie (died Oct. 17, 2017)and Chanie Wenjack (died Oct. 23, 1966 - died after running away from residential school and attempting to walk home). Calling on Canadians to answer Downie’s call to action to “DO SOMETHING” to learn about Residential Schools, their impact on Canadian Indigenous people and communities and Canada as a whole, and to learn about and celebrate Indigenous Culture as an  important part of Canadian culture.

As you may notice, the Library Bulletin Board this week is all about ReconciliACTION.  It features challenges, mostly from the Indian Horse Next150 Challenges site.  Each challenge aims to promote learning about indigenous culture and indigenous rights.  I hope we can try different challenges on our own or as classes (photos, lists, etc. can be added to the bulletin board).

I'd like to challenge you to do a challenge with your class at some point in the year (and share with me so we can add it to the library boards/blogs).  Or share something else you've done to learn about indigenous culture.

This week I've completed the "Whose Land Challenge".  I want to challenge you/your class to do the same and have students present a proper acknowledgement at morning announcements.

Winter uniforms are officially in affect. All students in Grade 4-6 will need to have all pieces of the winter uniform with them everyday. The winter uniform consists of SJA gray pants/skirt, navy blue socks and black dress shoes (which they already have), a white button up long sleeve crested SJA shirt, a navy blue SJA crested sweater/sweater vest, an academic and house colour tie (to be worn every Friday) and an SJA crested blazer. Please be sure to label all pieces! Blazers must be worn during transitions and around the school, but can be taken off while in class and during lunch. A reminder that all SJA uniform pieces must be purchase through Ms. Alpa and Multiform Canada. Ms. Alpa can be reached at alpa@multiformcanada.com.
Please note that the uniform store will be closed from October 15th to October 24th. If you need to purchase any uniforms please make sure all orders are placed by October 10th 2019 by email: alpa@multiformcanada.com or online www.multiformcanada.com.
