I hope you all had a
wonderful day! Tomorrow is a Day 6 and we will not be having gym as we have our
science fair summative and International Day to work on. The French play permission forms and
payments are due Monday, October 21st. Casual Day forms have been sent home. If you would like your child
to participate, please complete the form and send in the $20 cash to me no
later than October 25th.
Thank
you to those families who have offered to donate some food for our
International Day Festivities. So far, we have Portuguese tarts, and other
items from a Portuguese bakery. Once again, please send me a quick
email/message if you can donate any nut free food related items or drinks.
Winter uniforms are officially in affect. All students
in Grade 4-6 will need to have all pieces of the winter uniform with them
everyday. The winter uniform consists of SJA gray pants/skirt, navy blue socks
and black dress shoes (which they already have), a white button up long sleeve
crested SJA shirt, a navy blue SJA crested sweater/sweater vest, an academic
and house colour tie (to be worn every Friday) and an SJA crested blazer.
Please be sure to label all pieces! Blazers must be worn during transitions and
around the school, but can be taken off while in class and during lunch. A
reminder that all SJA uniform pieces must be purchase through Ms. Alpa and
Multiform Canada. Ms. Alpa can be reached at alpa@multiformcanada.com.
Please note that the uniform store will be closed from October 15th
to October 24th. If you need to purchase any uniforms please make sure all orders
are placed by October

Unit of Inquiry
Today
we continued working on our good copies of our science fair project.
Students must pick an experiment that has to do with matter. Next
week, we will be working our way through the Scientific Method and rough copies
of our questions, hypothesis, variables, and research. Over Thanksgiving
weekend, students will be required to conduct their experiment three separate
times, record all observations, and write down the results. The week of October
15-18th, students will complete their good copies, create their
graph, and begin board set up. The summative will be due Friday, October 18th,
with presentations taking place this day. Our school wide science fair is
happening on Friday, November 15th. Don’t forget to take some
pictures of you completing your experiment.
Our Scientists in the School
workshop is on Tuesday, October 22nd.
Please note that reimbursements will not be given for students who are absent
the day of the workshop. If you would like to volunteer, please note that you
must have a
vulnerable sector screen on file with the school. If you already have one,
please ensure that you sign the annual offence declaration.

Today
we wrote our Number Patterns math test. Our next unit will be measurement and
will deal with time, money, surface area, volume, and capacity. As of now
our math test for this unit will be Monday, November 4th.

sentences that begin with a capital letter and ending with either a period,
exclamation point, or question mark. Please use the book to help with spelling
and to be sure to answer each question completely, with support from the book.
Our
annual International Day is quickly
approaching and will take place on Thursday, October 17th. Parents
will be able to view our fantastic projects on October 17th from
2:30 – 3:15 PM. This year the country we will be learning about is Portugal. Beginning Tuesday, and for
the following few weeks, we will be busy researching and putting together a
fabulous presentation on our country. Students will need devices and books from
a local library to complete their research. Please see the following groups and
topics for this project.

This week we are continuing solids, liquids, and gases. We have used the
ingredients in making a pizza to emphasize the three states of matter.
Yesterday we did the ingredients in a pizza and today we did the partitive
form, which were placed before the correct foods and liquids. Students began to
use j'ai besoin de with foods on their worksheets and will complete for
homework.
The
Grade 5s will be attending a French theatrical presentation ‘Les Insectes Sur Scene’ on Tuesday, March
31st from 9:30 to 11:30 AM. The cost of this trip is $19.
Tickets need to be ordered in advance, so please ensure the permission form and
payments (cash or Quickbooks) are due back by Monday, October 21st.
