Good afternoon everyone!
I hope you all had a
wonderful day! Tomorrow is a Day 3, our SITS matter workshop (we will be
partaking in the AM session), and music. Please do not forget your instrument
at home! The French play permission forms and payments were due today, Monday,
October 21st. Casual Day forms are due by Friday, October 25. Please submit
the form indicating if your child(ren) will or will not
be participating. Please note that Casual
Day was not included in registration this year, so if you
would like your child(ren) to participate, please
submit the form and $20 cash payment.
A note from Ms. Hayward - October 17 marked the first day of Secret Path Week, ccommemorating the legacies of Gord Downie
(died Oct. 17, 2017) and Chanie Wenjack (died Oct. 23, 1966 ), who died after
running away from residential school and attempting to walk home. We are calling on Canadians to answer
Downie’s call to action to “DO SOMETHING” to learn about Residential Schools,
their impact on Canadian Indigenous people and communities and Canada as a
whole, and to learn about and celebrate Indigenous Culture as an important
part of Canadian culture.

As
you may notice, the Library Bulletin Board this week is all about
ReconciliACTION. It features challenges, mostly from the Indian Horse
Next150 Challenges site. Each challenge aims to promote learning about
indigenous culture and indigenous rights. I hope we can try different
challenges on our own or as classes (photos, lists, etc. can be added to the
bulletin board).
I'd
like to challenge you to do a challenge with your class at some point in the
year (and share with me so we can add it to the library boards/blogs). Or
share something else you've done to learn about indigenous culture.
This
week I've completed the "Whose Land Challenge". I want to
challenge you/your class to do the same and have students present a proper
acknowledgement at morning announcements.

Unit of Inquiry
Today
we began our A Voyage Back in Time Unit, where we will study ancient Rome,
ancient Greece, and ancient Egypt. Today we began by creating our KWL chart
with what we know and what we want to know. We also wrote our Wonder Wall
questions. We also watched a video!
Video Links –
The summative for this unit will have students recreating an ancient
artifact from one of the civilizations we studied. More information to come
closer to the end of the unit! As of now, we will be beginning the summative
the week of November 18th with a due date of Friday, November 29th.
Our Scientists in the School
workshop is tomorrow Tuesday, October 22nd.
We will be completing the workshop during te morning. Please note that reimbursements
will not be given for students who are absent the day of the workshop. All
students are required to be in their full school day winter uniform.

Inquiry into
Mathematics
Today
we began our third unit – Measurement. Today we focused on telling time using
the 24-hour notation. 24-hour notation is used at airports, in the military,
and at train stations. When we use 24-hour notation, there will be 4
digits. We created our own clock to help
us.
4:45
= 16:45
00:05
= 12:05
7:00
= 18:00
23:15
= 11:15
Please
pay close attention to what the question is asking and if it is asking for
AM/PM.
As of now our math test for this unit will be Monday, November 4th.
Points to Remember
The
small hand tells the hour, the large hand tells the minutes, and the skinny
hand tells the seconds.
Every
small mark on a clock represents the minutes. The total number of minutes
between each number on a clock is 5.
A
quarter after is 15 minutes after, half-past is 30 minutes after, and a quarter
to is 15 minutes to the next hour.
